I really liked the panhandle, particularly the coastal parts of Gulf and Franklin counties. That area to me is just so peaceful and scenic. I wish I could live there, but I have my job here in Jacksonville.

Lake Placid is one of the best kept secrets in Florida. Though people are starting to figure it out.

In 50 years time, Highlands county will explode in growth. All the growth will continue to extend down us 27 and also because the growth from Bradenton and Lakeland will spread to heartland Florida. There probably will be another interstate highway built through the area as well. We are right in the middle of the state. The area is still pretty old Florida and southern in culture which is refreshing compared to the elite coastal parts of Florida like Pinellas/Sarasota and South FL etc

Very cool to see so much of the state. We have been greatly exploring since moving 2 years ago and have many more upcoming road trips. We will want to visit Gulf/Franklin counties as we love the quiet getaway feel. We have been to Sebring and lake placid which we enjoyed, again for the laid back small town atmosphere. We also enjoyed walking through the antique shops in Arcadia. We haven't explored the panhandle and after your post, I'm really wanting to check it out!
