Many seniors in Florida came from the Northeast, which has had traditionally the best education levels in the country. Plus many worked for most advanced companies, businesses, unions, school teachers, public sector employees, etc. So they became stupid in Florida all of a sudden?

If the boomers are as you say -- selfish and shortsighted, shouldn't they be selfish and protect Florida waters and natural areas? Many of them 55+ have 20-30 years left to live in FL, no?

You think they left their homes up North to live in a pigsty?

Not sure where you read me bragging about illegals aliens.

There is some big differences between the old lettuce-pickers and the new:

1- In the old days, every lettuce picker was a seasonal worker; they worked the American farms for some months, then went back home to Mexico or Central America. Unions wouldn't allow it.

Now they stay. Every lettuce-picker brings 5-6 family members in-tow (wife, kids, parents) who require schooling, hospital, housing, roads, social services. We have never had open borders combined with welfare. Each illegal alien is a net $ 14k deficit.

2- We've never had constant immigration, without pauses for assimilation.

Democrats and middle America are now at a point of reciprocal hating of each other guts. Never in our history has a political party pushed illegal immigration as means of replacing population who disfavors its POV. Importing voters (at all costs) from countries that have yet to go through enlightenment and basic civil societies -- we have never seen this en-masse. Democrats are losing because besides genitalia and skin-color it has nothing else to offer to Americans. Lure of welfare has run its course with American nationals. But it's still a lure for the illegal alien.

It must suck to be a Democrat -- you either now have to become a full-bore socialist, or if you refuse to comply, you will be political minced meat by a radicalized left with a vociferous appetite for uniformity, and no tolerance for dissent.

And you think they care about the environment? Sweet dreams..

This IMO is the more appropriate H.L. Mencken quote, especially regarding the man-made climate change science deniers who currently control our federal government, and who are pushing for expanded fossil fuel consumption, and regarding their most ardent supporters, often with pecuniary interests in the fossil fuel industry:

<<Democracy also is a form of worship. It's the worship of Jackals by Jackasses.>>

My hope is that many Americans don't yet understand the threat posed by man-made climate change and at some point will fulfill the famed motto of the old Scripps- Howard newspapers, displayed under the beam from a lighthouse: "Give light and the people will find their own way."

https://ginapera.com/biography.html

That's why the Oct. 10 editorial in the Miami Herald so encouraged me.

Entrusting our Florida environment to the Republicans (climate deniers) is like entrusting your daughter to be alone with Trump.

Words are cheap, I hope you wouldn’t trust your daughter with liberal Weinstein.

Or how about Bill Clinton, Woody Allen, or Roman Polanski?

You can’t trust anything to just one side. As I said you need both — grassroots environmentalism and Capitalism to pay for it. Cleaning up the environment and keeping it clean costs money. We should even push the envelope — even more parkland, more sewage treatmemt, more plants to cleanup garbage, more tech, more levies, flood walls. These costs money, and without an economic goose — there won’t be golden eggs.
