I know several people who shoot ARs and AKs. None of them want to play army. They enjoy shooting as a hobby. BTW, you do know that AR doesn’t stand for “assault rifle”, right? The AR you had in the military is not the same as what you can buy as a civilian. No full auto, no 3-shot burst selector.

Folks shouldnt use assault weapons as entertainment.

My understanding is the M16 and AR15 are based on the same Armalite 15 design. When you want to hit something you dont fire rock&roll. Rock&roll is only good for making the other side keep their head down.

I also have friends who feel the same way, but at the same time, using that as a reason doesn't automatically justify it.

I think it'd be fun to plant a bomb on a big rock and see it explode. Therefore does that mean citizens should be allowed to buy bombs?

Which Constitutional amendment guarantees the right to possess bombs?

We aren’t talking about that.

I specifically said using the argument of “I like to own them for entertainment” isn’t a good argument.

You can say, “the second amendment gives me that right” to justify it.

Ah, I see what you were getting at. Yeah, one's personal motivations or feelings are irrelevant. It's a Constitutionally protected right. The infatuation and hysteria surrounding "scary looking" rifles is a personal problem, and perhaps a mental health issue as well as far as I can tell.

I didn’t write that as a “justification” of anything. I wrote it as a rebuttal to the claim that people with semi-automatic sport rifles just want to be pretend soldiers. (”Assault rifle” is an anti-gun term designed to confuse the public and apparently at least one veteran into believing that the rifle we can buy as citizens is the same as the ones used by the military. They look the same but they are not capable of full auto or 3-shot bursts.

I understand, I wasn't trying to take a jab to you or anything like that. Just trying to point out to others as Ocala said, "...one's personal motivations or feelings are irrelevant. It's a Constitutionally protected right."
