Also I have been doing some other research on building my own home? Any recommendations on this? Is the price better to build?

Whats the average cost for a house to be built in Florida? I know this depends on a lot of variables but I have attached a floor plan of something we would be looking at.
It depends...if you build you can spec certain things which may help the property last longer with less maintenance. Florida is tough of materials and humans and horses....most anything!

If I were building I'd figure on the higher prices, which are still cheap compared to most of the east coast. For example, in New England and the mid-Atlantic it's often 200 or more per sq. ft, so $150 is a bargain for decent building materials.

You definitely want shade, but trees grow quickly if there isn't already some on the lot. Large overhangs help a LOT in terms of avoiding direct sunlight. Masonry construction and/or careful study of other materials is important (hardiboard and some other cement boards are popular). Metal roofs are the in-thing these days as they have been improved greatly.

One needs to study every detail to make things as easy as possible to take care of...and to last as long as possible.

You'll probably need to look inland if you want to stay safer from hurricanes, but that would also limit your beach access.

I think ya'll would really like Florida if you are willing to put yourselves slightly more at risk for big storms. Having lived in Houston, you'll be used to the humidity .

Check east of 75 in Sarasota/Bradenton area . Between Sarasota and Myakka City . Lots of horse farms .

Charleston or Savannah would be good choices. Also hurricane prone, though. Anything near the coast in the southeast will be. There are pros and cons to everything .

Even inland would not save you from canes jane. Look at charlie in 2004 as it did more damage inland all the way past Orlando joe. A super cat 5 would tear up anything inland.

Exactly, as witnessed by what we just saw last year with Hurricane Michael. People fled the coast for inland towns like Marianna, which was shredded from the Category 4/5 winds.

Default Moving

Some months ago I moved to East Coast after treatment in rehab center by Addiction Resource. It's such a nice place! I feel absolutely safe here.

Yeah it was so bad here that I could not believe all the palm fronds that had to be picked up. Oh I live in Volusia County 8 miles from the beach.

Could be more like this. Marianna is over 60 miles inland from the coast..
