Hi Guys,

We will be moving to Florida next year and I want to transfer some funds over prior to the move.

Does anyone have any opinion as to weather this is the right time to do the transfer or should I wait a while?

I must admit that I do not have much experience with regard to world currency so any advice would be appriciated.

It's just a shame that the UK did'nt sign up to the Euro because that seems to be the super currency at the moment, a newspaper over here was suggesting that an avarage UK family holidaying in Europe will have to spend an additional £700 to compensate for the weak £, so Florida brace yourselves
for a British invasion this summer!!!

Default Hi

As an ex pat i like to try to keep up on these things, and i think your in a better position with Sterling. I thought the last time i checked it was in a stronger position than the Euro. I believe at the moment the exchange rate is something like 1.9742 for sterling to $$ and 1.574 for euro to $$$. You will typically find that the GBP stays around the 2.0 mark and this would be the best time to buy to be honest. But should you buy now? There are arguments for and against. The property crisis in the UK means i believe the Bank of England were talking about lowering interest rates today which could stimulate the economy. I would certainly give it a couple of weeks and see what happens. You have plenty of time before you have to make a decision though so dont rush.

Moving next year... you have got your visa sorted before transferring your money over? (I know you probably have but it can be very important so thought I'd ask anyway).

Thanks for the replys guys,

Yes the visa is sorted. It's been a long process though, I have been sponsored by my brother who is a citizen by birth (unfortunately I just missed out) and it has taken 12 years to get my green card, but as they say the best things are worth waiting for.
