Firing squad was much more effective, economical, and humane (as far as death sentence can be considered humane).

But we have "science" in all its humanity.
Gas chamber probably was most humane of all

Why in the gas chambers, people are not killed with carbon monoxide? This is a mild death, just man falls asleep and suffocates.

Why can many years pass from the adjudication of the death sentence to the enforcement of the sentence?

For example, Ted Bundy in 1979 and 1980 received two death sentences, and the death penalty was carried out only in 1989.
Since the evidence of guilt is so strong that you can condemn him to death on their basis, then why should the execution of punishment be postponed for many years?

We have a system of appeals to higher courts that every accused person has the right to pursue. The death sentence cannot be applied until all appeals have been exhausted. It is, after all, an irrevocable punishment that cannot be appealed from the grave.
