We lost our roof in Matthew, replaced it with an aluminum roof. Irma made us lose power and our boarded up house felt like a cave. We replaced all our windows with impact resistant (hurricane) windows. Now we only have plywood covering a set of sliding glass doors, a pair of French doors and the little window in the back door to the garage. We are replacing the sliding glass doors and French doors with impact resistant French doors - on the 16th. A bit too late for this hurricane.

A lot of friends have generators that will run the fridge, a window AC and a light. A few have whole house generators. I guess there is no end to what you can do to prepare.

Hurricanes will not stop my planned move to Florida.

NOTHING is more hyped by the media than hurricanes.

Seems every hurricane is the WORST hurricane, STRONGEST hurricane EVER!

If you go to The Weather Channel's web site, and look at the 5 day forecast for any city that will be impacted by Dorian. Remember the highest wind speed forecast.

Now, turn on the Weather Channel's Cable TV station, and watch for the same info. You'll see the TWC cable TV station is reporting ~40 mph higher winds.

Thus, cable TV is hyping the storm by ~40 mph over the internet.

Lastly, in a few days, this storm will have passed, however, the high taxes up North are forever!

It's 2019. People need to realize that the cable news channels are just as desperate for viewers as the click-bait websites. Nearly every local news outlet streams their broadcast and "breaking news" segments. Whether it's weather or a manmade disaster, people should search for "[city name] ABC/NBC/CBS" and stream the local news if they want a non-hyped version of the events.

Oh, and in a few days this storm will be gone, but the high taxes up North are forever!

NOPE- WORTH IT! I'm still coming. I could be hanging onto a light pole in the middle of tropical winds and I'd be hollering about how happy I am that I escaped this wasteland of a desert.

It could get hit with one category 5 a week and I would still love living in Florida over about every other place in the world.

The people not asking questions about moving to Florida during a Hurricane are likely being sensitive to Floridians' other concerns at this time. Those are the kind of people we want to move here isn't it?

The questions will return after they know the storm has passed.
