How’s Niceville?
Don't know about insurance costs closer in.

Niceville is generally pretty nice- largely a middle to UMC commuter town for Eglin AFB with good schools. The down side is somewhat limited shopping and entertainment so we end up going across the bridge to Destin a bunch for that.

My spouse was a paramedic in Escambia County for a few years and he worked 12 hour shifts. They are always short handed. There are some private companies too, but he worked for the county.

I heard the same thing about Okaloosa. I worked with a guy up here who used to work for Okaloosa EMS, and he said it’s a busy place and easy to get on. I like busy!
I’m not a fan of 12 hour shifts at all, but it’s not a deal breaker at all. It’s just nice to get paid while your sleeping! That is, unless you’re running calls! Haha

$2-3 each way on the mid bay bridge right? That’s gotta add up. I guess the lack of income tax has to be accounted for somewhere!

I’d be alright living anywhere in Okaloosa, even Destin. I look at the traffic almost every day since last summer and while it can be bad at times, it’s no where near unlivable like people make it out to be. The worst I saw it backed up to was 50 minutes on the weekend of July 4th I think.

I had to sit through two light changes at the 520-A1A intersection one Saturday. Infuriating.

A lot of the Destin traffic issues are currently tied into the widening of US 98 and in theory that work is supposed to be done Real Soon Now

The Mid-Bay Bridge is a semi-autonomous entity. The bridge itself is useful; the problem is that, like any organization public or private, the toll bridge authority is a pig that wants to grow to the size of its pen and they added an additional toll road bypassing Niceville that no one really uses. So they had to increase tolls on the bridge proper in order to pay the bonds they issued for the construction of the Niceville bypass.

That’s dumb. I hate tolls, I’d rather just pay taxes and avoid the whole thing. We don’t have tolls here

No, because I want to live oceanside. Like I said, if I was going to move somewhere inland, I’d probably move to Houston. I’d much rather live somewhere by the ocean like Okaloosa or Sarasota.
