Makes sense for both. Comparable Square footage for Aldi and a cheap diving board for multiple openings of Publix's Greenwise concept, which is of similar square footage.

Mmmmmm 2 or 3 ALDIS fit inside any Luckys out there, at least in the State of Florida, some Luckys buildings even bigger than a Whole Foods.

I've read that some of those Lucky's buildings would be divided if they were to become Aldi. That probably wouldn't too bad for a shopping center location. However, that would be a problem for this stand still stores.

More information (including financials) on the Lucky's bankruptcy...

https://www.grocerydive.com/news/luc...ruptcy/571178/

UNFI, listed as Lucky's largest creditor, is a warehousing/shipping company that also provides large amounts of similar organic and conventional merchandise to Whole Foods and the Fresh Market.

Wow. Quite a few things that were discussed here mentioned in the article. Over expansion. Bigger companies like Sprouts, which is virtually identical in product offering but with the power of being a major national brand, moving in. Rather surprisingly, no mention of Amazon beefing up Whole Foods. The media usually give Amazon credit for everything whether it is true or not (i.e. the last Southeastern Grocers downsizing, Toys R Us, etc.)

Personally, I thought Lucky's was the winner between Lucky's, Sprouts, and Earth Fare here. But the quick expansion hurt them. I see that Tampa's Fresh Kitchen got investor money to spread in Florida. I hope they don't make the same mistake. Grow slowly...

The remaining Lucky's stores have been purchased by a group led by the original founders.

Yes, it was. It's still their only location in the entire state as well.

Another update. Lucky's has over 600 million in debt, including over 300 million to Kroger, with 15 million in cash on hand and 400 million in assets, they've had a net loss of over 100 million. Primarily blaming Fresh Thyme, Sprouts, and Earthfare for their demise with a large drop in sales over the past year. Sounds like a massive money pit.

Southeastern Grocers has expressed interest in acquiring some of the locations, I'm assuming as Winn Dixie. I'd bet they plan on borrowing money to do this is well.

Loose Dixie is Horrible ... Fresco y Mas, their Latin Model, sucks even further.

I have to admit being surprised to hear SE Grocers would be interested in any real estate at this point, since they're barely keeping the Bankruptcy Lawyers at bay themselves.
