"one of the complaints I see on here often is that an employer in Orlando (or all of Florida for that matter) can fire you without notice or reason. According to Wiki, 22 other states also have "right to work" laws, so Florida is not unique in this

Right to work has nothing to do with what you are talking about here. Right to work means that you can not be forced to join a union as a condition of employment and if you work in a shop with a union, they can not mandate that you pay union dues as a condition of employment.

What people are talking about is "AT Will" employment laws, Florida is a At Will state which means that they can fire you for no reason within the first 90 days of employment, After that they have to have a good reason or you can file an unlawful termination lawsuit against them.

the employer is not denying your right to unionize, but when you do, right to work says that you can not make every employee join the union or collect dues from their paychecks. That is why union leaders do not operate in right to work states that much. No money for them

Unless you are one of those employees who don't want to join a union, don't want your money used to go toward causes you don't believe in, or one of those employees who would rather progress on their own merits instead of how long one has been on the job, then working in a Right to Work state is a good thing!

This statement is not accurate.

In Florida, an employer may terminate an employee for any/no reason so long as the termination does not violate federally protected exceptions. The only Florida-specific exception to terminating an employee that I'm aware of is the following, which is concerning the legal keeping of arms in one's vehicle: Chapter 790 Section 251 - 2011 Florida Statutes - The Florida Senate

There is certainly [no] probationary exception except where defined by either direct employer-employee contract, or alternatively, a written company policy that applies to all employees within a given firm (such as language found in an employee handbook). Just to reiterate, working for a firm for greater than 90 days makes no difference unless the company has stipulated to such in writing (and they'd be foolish to do so).

Right to work is just those great Republicans "protecting" us from unions. It prohibits certain contracts between a business and a union. You can have exclusive agreements with suppliers of goods and services.. just not from a labor union. The irony is that right-to-work is a government regulation that RESTRICTS freedom.

it's possibly the only employee "protection" that they support.

Wrong. That's like saying having to work monday through friday as a condition of employment restricts freedom. They should have a right-to-work-whenever-you-want law. How about employers that make their employees travel. I mean doesn't that restrict freedom? They should have a law that protects employees from having to travel as a condition of employment!

Closed shop union contracts are terms that private parties agree to in a free market. You don't have to work for somebody who makes you work Monday through Friday and you don't have to work for someone who only gets their labor through union.

You don't have to work for somebody who makes you work Monday through Friday and you don't have to work for someone who only gets their labor through union.
And the labor union sure as hell doesn't have to control who can and cannot work for an employer. Amen to the free market. Without the employer, labor would not. exist. Exhibit A: general motors. Lucky for the uaw that obama was potus in 2009
