I guess you need to tell old people not to watch fox news or listen to pundits like Rush Limbaugh...

The economic wreckage from incompetent leadership and bungled early response during a crisis has a good chance of dwarfing the combined cost of many a dumb social program handout.

...you mean in mid-Jan when the World Health Organization told the entire world it was not contagious

When no one in the world had seen it outside of China...had to rely on what China said...and China was lying through their teeth

Yep, China bungled its early response, more specifically, the state and municipal administration of Hubei and Wuhan both tried to downplay the entire thing which lead to this crisis. China's governmental structure meant that regional pols and bureaucrats were greatly incentivized to make indices look good which is what lead to the bungling of the important early stages of this which is what made Hubei such a cluster****. Since it became clear that Hubei screwed it up, the other provinces in China took it a lot more seriously and the Chinese national government took notice and made swift moves to contain it to Hubei which is why the caseloads in all other provinces differed markedly from Hubei.

When it became clear on a national and then international level that the reality of the coronavirus outbreak could not give two ****s about how politicians feel about the optics of the coronavirus, information became much more widely available. After that, then it was something that every nation needed to be prepped for because much more information was available. Nations that had a plan and coordinating agency for not just coronavirus, but pandemics in general, ended up being able to greatly mitigate the issue. Nations that continued to be in denial for whatever reason or did not have a plan and coordinating agency ended up having to do blunt force instruments in order to try to deal with it and here we are now.

China's government screwed things up in the beginning--or more specifically, the way their government is structured and incentivized screwed things up. They at least had a ready plan for after it became apparent there was this screwup. Other nations getting screwed by this is something that China does need to answer to at some point, and I hope China's government does actually lend real aid to alleviate the issue that their government caused and institutes strong structural reforms to prevent anything like this from happening again, but it also brings into question why some nations such as the US were so fundamentally unprepared for a pandemic and unwilling to act swiftly regardless of where the pandemic originated. Novel infectious diseases are not the sole domain of China--never has been, never will be. It's important for any nation to learn from this, because solely saying that it is an issue with China's government does little to help ensure that a nation will proactively have plans and the infrastructure in place to deal with pandemics regardless of origin since each nation themselves can be the origin of a pandemic.

The virus is improving Orlando. You can drive anywhere in town in half the time now. And the best part is with our new curfew the boom cars can't drive around blasting that reggaeton and dembow crap at 3AM anymore.

Hurricane season approaches. Can you imagine if people are sent to shelters to ride out the storms? The virus will spread so fast within shelters. Bad time to be in FL this year.
