Hello all,
I was hoping you could help. I am needing to relocate to a new part of Florida and searching towns isn't working. Here is what I need : near the water (doesn't have to be the beach, I love to walk near the water), schools that have track and swim team, 3 brm rentals for under 1000, open employment, and low crime. To me this is very hard to find, so if anyone knows where I can discover them please let me know.

You have two options in my opinion at that budget, Tallahassee or Pensacola. Tallahassee's north side is best and that is the area for Leon HS which has both sports. In Pensacola the area around downtown/center of town is zoned for Pensacola HS which has a very good swim program.

How long does it take to drive from North Talahassee to a beach?

LOL to both, especially on the qualifications for rent and proximity to one of the coasts.

I really can't give sound advice as I am not familiar with school swimming programs, but of what Kyle suggested, Pensacola would get you to the beach faster than Tallahassee.

If one bothers to read the original post, a beach isn't necessary....just a body of water. Tallahassee has FOUR large lakes on the north side. Otherwise it's under an hour to the closest Gulf beach. In terms of rentals under $1000....

It’s an hour to get to the coastline from Tallahassee but that’s swampland. To get to a proper sandy beach, you’re talking St. George Island or so, which adds more travel time. Pensacola is hit or miss and requires working with someone who knows the area well so you don’t end up in the ghetto. There’s a lot to like there but I’ve also taken a wrong turn a few blocks from the nice parts of East Hill and seen open air daylight drug dealing

That's not unlike any other larger city in the state unfortunately.

Given the number of people who post here about wanting to be near the beach, it’s not a surprise that many of us just gravitated toward that in our responses.

Based on the map on that page, it looks like a majority of those Tallahassee rentals are near the college and universities. Those are actually great prices. If that works for the poster, then fine, but she should keep the college atmosphere that in mind. She may not want a three bedroom next to a unit with three college roommates having parties every other weekend.
