hey Everyone!

Anybody know of reputable moving companies or ways to move things up to North Carolina? I have friends of mine who are trying to find a moving truck company move their 2 bedroom house to North Carolina. They have tried three places and moving companies are quoting them $5700 for the move up there. That seems nearly twice to three times the rate. They are looking in the ballpark of 2000-2200.

Any options or suggestions?

In the $2000-range, the best bet may be to rent a truck (U-Haul, Penske, Budget) ... and hire a couple guys from the labor pool to load/unload. They might even be able to hire a company to pack things and, if necessary, rent a towing rig for their car. Add in the cost of gas, tolls, food and an overnight --- and $2000 would likely be pretty reasonable.

Also, you didn't say where in Florida .... It's about 400 miles from Miami to Jacksonville!

We're long past the 'moving ourselves' stage, but, even at a younger age, I would rather take a beating, than self-move.

I agree with jghorton but rather than labor pool help, hire professional movers on each end that just either load or unload from your rental truck. Here in FL for example I used Expedient Movers who are based out of Orlando and St Petersburg. They hire out crews by the hour based on size of house and work involved. I used Expedient twice and loved their service and "no surprises" pricing.
