This doesnt match up with the latest news. The number of COVID cases in Florida has skyrocketed. They are in the top of the nation for the most cases while NYC has flattened the curve. While the weather in FLA is nice in the Winter, so much of the state has become way too overpopulated. Also, FLA has always attracted the trashiest rednecks of the world. I grew up in Massachusetts and every burnout kid I knew from high school ended up in Florida!

High taxes, riots, & exploding murder rates, are all contributing to the mass exodus from New York to Florida which New York Cuomo says is as "serious as a heart attack".

The exodus, which began shortly after the 911 terror attacks, and escalated due to the SALT tax laws, is now being fueled by the pandemic, protests, & crime (recent outbreak of murders in NYC).

Even Alexandria Ocasio Cortez's Mother left New York!

270 New Yorkers a day move from New York to Florida, and the rate is increasing.

Mayor DeBlasio said taxes must increase even more, and services cut deeper.

Make room Floridians.
I can assure you that NO ONE from NY, my home state, is fleeing TO FLORIDA, pretty much the epicenter of COVID-19.

What riots? There were peaceful protests against the MURDER of George Floyd, as there were in many places.

I keep in close contact via phone and social media with my NYC friends. One friend gave up her Manhattan apartment to live permanently in her country home in the beautiful, clean mountains of upstate NY. She has risk factors that make it safer to live in a less densly populated area.

The news just mentioned states that are having a "covid surge". You know what states were on the list? Texas, West Vitginia, Wisconcin, and FLORIDA.

NOT NEW YORK.

Florida is one of the places that had HUGE HOUSE PARTIES and BEACH PARTIES. COVID-19, remember?

I have friends and family in FL who are very unhappy about how COVID-19 has been handled.

Trust me, you have a lovely state, but NO ONE from NY, NJ or CT, is fleeing TO Florida to escape COVID-19.

You should really stop "politicising" this Pandemic. This is a horrific health crisis, not a parisan gathering.

Florida already surpasses New York in total cases. Daily deaths in Florida now exceed 120/day, according to John Hopkins, despite Florida's corrupt reporting system. Daily deaths in New York are less than 20.

Here's the alternative COVID-19 data dashboard.

https://experience.arcgis.com/experi...fec2d4373b01fa

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/sta...deaths/florida

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/sta...eaths/new-york

Florida actually reported 216 daily COVID-19 deaths for 7/29 for Florida residents.

It's doubtful anybody is leaving New York for Florida to avoid the COVID-19 epidemic.

The early hotspots didn’t understand the nursing home problem. In Massachusetts, 62% of deaths were in nursing homes. Florida got to benefit from that hard lesson. Test the staff weekly. Mandatory PPE. Limit the diameter of residents any single staff member contacts and limit the mobility of the residents. You adopt that process and your body count is cut in half. The northeastern hospitals also developed more effective treatments. Prone on your stomach with oxygen, not a vent. Antivirals. Anti-stroke medicine. Antibody plasma transfusions as a last resort. Nobody knew any of that in March. That also reduced the body count. The high risk people had enough information to get the heck out of the way. It’s not running rampant through The Villages. 100,000 right wing geezers mostly wearing masks, distancing, and shouting down the “it’s just the flu” people. “This can kill you” is a pretty powerful message when you’re in the high risk group.

The Florida death rate is about what you’d expect given all that.

I just wonder if other countries are arguing with different sections of itself about the virus. Are the Canadian provinces comparing and bashing each other? Australia, Germany, etc.?

Even on a cumulative basis, Florida now is behind California on a cumulative per capita basis, even though CA was hit hard early. Using your numbers, Florida deaths per 100,000 are now 29.5 vs. 22.5 in CA, and CA was hit much harder in the spring.

Arguing that Florida is a haven in the COVID-19 epidemic is ridiculous.

As noted in post 93, Florida's daily deaths now are 10 times higher than in NY.

https://www.city-data.com/forum/flor...-taxes-10.html

Not learning the lessons of how to fight the COVID-19 epidemic successfully is a much greater indictment than being overwhelmed by an unknown virus at a time of limited resources. E.g., there is no excuse for the absence of a state-wide mask mandate in Florida.

Let's compare the COVID-19 epidemic response in Florida, or the U.S., with nations like Taiwan (fewer than 50 deaths with a larger population)) and South Korea (only 300 deaths despite a population over twice that of Florida).

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality

Florida's response compared to other nations is important as DeSantis has supported and praised the Trump pandemic response rather than demanding an effective national program as undertaken in other developed nations.

https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality

The politicization of mask wearing by both Trump and DeSantis is especially worthy of contempt.

https://www.inquirer.com/opinion/mas...-20200630.html

Why would anybody flee to Florida to escape a pandemic while the state still is controlled by a Mini-Trump and his supporters?

bullcrap...

Florida's fatality rate is 1.4%

...New York's fatality rate is 7.8%

when you kill everyone in the nursing homes right off the bat....of course you can claim you're doing better later
