Anyone stepping on green grass areas and seeing them fly 8-10 feet away from you ??

Here in West Kendall they are not out of control yet, but they are around and I see more of them daily now....

I Googled the sightings in SW Florida, but there are no reports yet.

This picture was taken today, on top of our Honda HRV., a good 2.5- 3 inches long.

Your imput is appreciatted.

you said you blocked me so you can't read my posts

"And while they don’t bite, they do spit. “When alarmed, lubbers will spread their wings, hiss and secrete foul-smelling froth from their spiracles. They can expel a fine spray of toxic chemicals for a distance of 15 cm,” the UF research states."

========

"When alarmed, lubbers spread their wings, hiss by expelling air from the spiracles, secrete foul-smelling froth from their spiracles (Fig. 3), and regurgitate recently consumed plant material as a dark brown liquid, commonly called ‘tobacco spit’, which can stain skin and clothing"

=========

"When that's not a sufficient deterrent, they also have the ability to hiss, spit and spray foul-smelling foam. The entire package yields one formidable, forbidding insect."

I was not logged in jen so i saw what ya banged away before logging in my man. I have never seen on spit while they sit or hop bop. Never in all these years and have way more years under my belt in FL than most. Also never saw one foam in my life and killed 1000's of them. I guess i am missing all the action like i do with rain and hurricanes. I am gonna find one and see if i can get it to spit and foam This has been a low number year for them my area.
