Don't call the problem what it is....sweep it under the rug.....and then **** and moan because no one ever fixes it

crime statistics says it's the most dangerous area in all of Jacksonville.... Moderator cut: link removed, competitor site

...and that it's predominately a black area

You don't know or care about Jacksonville. You just saw another opportunity to incite, divide and throw blame around. You even zeroed in on their worst zip code to do it, 32209 is not Downtown.

Your agenda is paper thin.

You're throwing some accusations and personal attacks around yourself....

If it's not the fact that downtown Jacksonville is completely surrounded by a high crime black ghetto....then what is it?

...you've got to drive through it to get there....the whole time you're there, you're surrounded by it....and you've got to drive back through it to get home

If it's not the crime stopping downtown from developing....what is it then

Yes, hide behind the personal attacks shield. What you state here shows you have zero clue about Jaksonville. Downtown is NOT surrounded by ghetto on all sides, that's a blatant lie. Your agenda is laid out for all to see here, you can't label the truth as personal attacks.

then show me how downtown Jacksonville is not completely surrounded by a high crime black ghetto

The race diversity map says it is > https://bestneighborhood.org/race-in-jacksonville-fl/

Statistics says it's the highest homicide rate in the entire state of Florida >

"While Jacksonville’s overall homicide rate is higher than elsewhere in Florida, the homicide rate among black men is even higher. One in 6,151 Jaxsons were killed in 2019 compared to one in 1,386 black men.

Out of the 158 homicide victims last year, 100 of them, or 63 percent, were black men. Black men make up just 14 percent of Jacksonville’s population.
...and zip code 32209 is directly adjacent to downtown Jacksonville..zero miles away....it's the entire north east quadrant of downtown Jacksonville

Again, you are clearly clueless about Jacksonville, and in way over your head. 32209 starts Northwest of Downtown, and takes in most of the area from there almost out to the Airport. It is the worst area of town, but it isn't to the Northeast and ghettos DO NOT surround Downtown. You've never been there, don't care about it and now think by furiously pulling up data you can somehow pathetically back up your twisted agenda.

You very clearly only charged into this formerly peaceful and intelligent thread to do nothing but STIR THE POT. Period.

sorry, it's north west....and it still directly borders downtown Jacksonville....and has the highest homicide rate in the entire state of Florida

the north east zip code..that directly borders downtown Jacksonville...is 32206
..it has a slightly higher crime rate....violent crime is 68.5..... property crime is 76.8

the rates for the state of Florida are 23.4 and 37.3 respectively

Congratulations, Corrie22. You've derailed yet another thread with your divisive rhetoric. You must be so proud.

People like you spreading this toxicity are chipping away at the enjoyment of participating in this site, in my opinion. I find these posts of yours to be repulsive, and often wonder if you spew this sort of thing publicly to your friends and neighbors.

I didn't come on this thread and attack anyone to derail the thread....you did
..you've added nothing to this thread about the subject....only that you don't like what was posted

..and as long as you keep it up..keep addressing it to me....I'm going to keep replying to you

What exactly is your fit about?

Because it's a huge black area surrounding downtown Jacksonville?
...because of it, Jacksonville has the highest crime rate of any large city in Florida?

or because it's a ghetto?

ghetto - a section of a city, especially a thickly populated slum area, inhabited predominantly by members of an ethnic or other minority group, often as a result of social pressures or economic hardships.

3. With all our current modern entertainment venues use seed money to start an entertainment zone for before and after events (post Covid). This will help tremendously for events but we will still have the problem of how these businesses survive when none of the venues have events. Which takes us back to the need of populating the urban core.
Under 25s with more imagination than household income can drive a lot of grass roots redevelopment. Move some significant number of programs at UNF from suburbia to downtown, and the students will follow, which then leads to small businesses catering to the students, including small entertainment venues, and a certain number of those small businesses will get enough buzz to draw older non-students into the area, leading to more buzz and a generally upward cycle.

I like the idea of moving a college closer to downtown. I don't know how feasible it is to move a major university that direction since they are already established in their part of town. Maybe offer some satellite classes downtown? I know FSCJ already does that.
