I am looking at buying a small acreage somewhere in Florida that is inexpensive. I don’t really care about the ocean or the beach. That said I don’t mind being in proximity to it. I have been on Zillow looking at land and the more I look the more it occurs to me that I know nothing about anywhere in Florida aside from the obvious beach towns.

I like forests and water. However being in a big, bug infested swamp might not be ideal. I am from Minnesota so i know how bad mosquitoes can be. Is there anywhere inland they aren’t so bad? I know Florida is mostly flat but maybe there are drier areas?

It can be very remote I don’t care about being near towns or any economy. If I could be near a small town that’s somewhat pleasant that’s always a bonus. I have found some pieces of land near Perry not from the coast that are inexpensive and seem to be on rivers. It seems the coast around Perry is muddy wetlands?

I have also found a piece in the Ocala forest with Loblolly pines on it that is nice enough.

Is there anywhere inland of outstanding natural beauty one of you locals might recommend? I know sometimes you get nice clear springs to swim in.

Looking for a pleasant 2-5 acres for around $30,000 and so far that seems feasible. However it is such a huge state it is hard to even begin to limit the search. You have $30,000 and for land to put a camper on, where do you go that’s not crowded?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks for the suggestion. Seems Frosproof actually has a few restaurants and perhaps a little life?

Frostproof is a quaint Country Area, lots of small Lakes, cool winter nights and days in the low 70's with very low humidity and skeeeters.

Areas around Brooksville, see if you find property there, I know you don't care but under 30 minutes from the Gulf. A piece of land not far from water would be for a nice return on your money in the Future.

Definitely appreciate the fact that being near the water is good for valuations. Thanks for that.

It has a cute little well-preserved downtown and a surprising amount of life including cultural activities. For grocery shopping there is a Save-A-Lot in town which is okay as far as grocery stores go and appears nicer than their typical store. There's a Walmart up the road in Lake Wales if that's your preference.

Was looking at land near Brooksville, there wasn’t much in my price range there. However there were some lots in a place called Homosassa. I see it is near the manatees and crystal River. Is this place over run by tourists? I don’t mind a few visitors but not sure if I want to be in a zoo. I would have no idea what kind of numbers to expect there.

That is a nice area. We owned land there once. Easy access to Tampa and a couple of small cities near by.

There is a lot of water there and would be diligent of flood plain elevation if purchasing a lot here. Also not much "life" in that area if it's a concern.

I agree, somewhere in the greater Sebring area might be suitable. It’s kind of neat geographically too with that ridge going through the area along with a few large lakes.
