Default Jones named Forbes magazine "Technology Person of the Year"

Both Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Trump both are widely accused of suppressing COVID-19 health statistics and the seriousness of the COVID-19 epidemic. Yet some persons, especially in this forum, pretend this is not so, and that Rebekah Jones was not even a blip on DeSantis' radar screen, despite the undeniable reality that she filled a void opened by the DeSantis administration in public transparency in Florida over COVID-19 data, and publicly attacked DeSantis' alledged censorship of COVID-19 data.

Ironically, "Forbes" magazine, which labels itself "The Capitalist Tool," just named Jones as its 2020 "Technology Person of the Year."

<<The data scientist responsible for Florida’s highly praised Covid-19 tracking dashboard came to national attention in December after the police raided her home, guns drawn, and seized her computer and smartphone. Fired in May from the state’s Department of Health for what she says was a refusal to manipulate data, Rebekah Jones launched an independent Covid-19 tracking dashboard and, later, a dashboard tracking cases in schools. Florida officials claim that unauthorized access to the state’s emergency alert system was traced to an IP address associated with her account, an accusation Jones denies. Regardless, she is the latest technologist who stepped up to fill the vacuum left by governments during Covid-19. >>

DeSantis' COVID-19 response mentor is relentless is downplaying the seriousness of the COVID-19 epidemic. Despite the emergence of a COVID-19 variant that reportedly is 70 percent more transmissible, DeSantis refuses to mandate mask-wearing and other social distancing practices.

<<Even as the U.S. continues to establish new single-day record increases in COVID-19 diagnoses and resulting deaths, Trump refuses to acknowledge scope of the pandemic, or seriousness of its consequences to Americans. In his tweet, the president said virus cases and deaths reported in the U.S. are "far exaggerated...because of @CDCgov's ridiculous method of determination compared to other countries, many of whom report, purposely, very inaccurately and low.">>

Despite the emergence of a COVID-19 variant that reportedly is 70 percent more transmissible, DeSantis refuses to mandate mask-wearing and other social distancing practices. Florida hospital patients and workers likely will pay the price for DeSantis' lax COVID-19 policies in the weeks ahead.

DeSantis' policy failures are vulnerable to documented statistical analysis, a product Jones has sought to provide Floridians to DeSantis' certain consternation.

<<Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, a Democrat, also is challenging DeSantis by skirting the governor’s order that barred communities from imposing penalties on individuals who disregard local mask and social distancing orders.

Demings has started fining businesses.

“I really don’t feel like I have to go to the governor to ask permission to be the mayor of Orange County,” Demings said, after enacting a local order allowing for $300 fines on businesses that fail to comply with county social distancing and face-covering requirements.>>

Great news all around!

Will be interesting to see the DeSantis apologists turn themselves into pretzels to explain this away.

Nobody reads that long, drawn out blabbering nonsense from WRnative. So don't expect much of a response.

More likely, the DeSantis worship cult doesn't want to bump threads containing factual responses that debunk their constant barrage of "Big Lie" propaganda.

Many people read it and agree with it.
We are just tired of arguing with those who are unwilling to consider that there is information that contradicts their "beliefs".
