You can rent near the salt water all over the state for less than $1500. What you will get for that will vary and “near” is a relative term. Do it, 46 is hardly “old”.

Don't make a move you'll regret. I agree with the other poster who said if you're looking to separate, move out of the house and get your personal business dealt with first. Too much change all at once can be overwhelming, and FL may not be the paradise you are imagining.

My husband and I have spent the last 15 years traveling to different areas around FL looking for a place to buy a retirement home. We changed our wants/needs/must-have's so many times as we got older and our life and health situations changed. We finally settled on a spot (Cocoa Beach) and bought a condo 2 years ago. We took a leap of faith and I'm so glad we did because we beat the Covid rush to purchase where we wanted.

Think long and hard and PLAN PLAN PLAN.

Find the reasons behind the misery in your life and work on making it better before moving to a different area, otherwise you’ll be dealing with the same issues in unfamiliar territory. Moving near the beach won’t fix your life.

Plenty of homes for under 100k in west Pasco near the gulf. Cheapest homes in the country.

Is there a beach there? Closest I can think of is honeymoon island (or whatever it’s called) in Palm Harbor...

No real beaches at all. Just rocks and gabbage palms. But drive 25 miles south and you got all the real beaches ya want. The land mass changes just south of Tarpon springs.

Take two weeks and spend some time in the areas you’re looking at. Talk to some rental agents and property managers... 42k for a single adult ‘might’ be doable, but it’ll be tight.

$42K a year isn't a lot of money in Florida in the large cities. Your money will get by much further in the exurban counties. Places like Marion (Ocala), Pasco (outside Tampa) also rural counties will be even cheaper. A place like Palatka is about 30-45 minutes to St. Augustine beach. It's rural and kind of a bad rep but these are the places that you will have to consider on your budget. It's not a lot.

I really don't think there's much out there you can afford that is safe and decent. There's slums and crack house type places everywhere but you won't want to live there.

Panhandle rural counties are also cheaper. Maybe Crestview, Chipley, Defuniak Springs, little rural panhandle towns, 30-45 minutes to the beach.
