hey, just wanted to get an idea of how much home insurance you pay a year and roughly how much coverage? Condo or house?

does it include flood? how bad does it flood in your area?

FL is at the top of my list for retirement.

Not in FL currently - where i am at pay $800 for about $390k dwelling coverage, 3% deductable all perils, additional 5% for hurricane

depends on flood zone, how old the home, how far off the ground, how far from coastal water. you may need flood, windstorm and home owners 3 separate policies. i was paying 650 a month for my 3 with 111k of coverage for a 1967 modular 3 feet off the ground on a boating canal in the florida keys. my neighbor pays 14k a year for insurance.

So true.
Im paying $5k a year for 100k of coverage in a non-flood zone, home built in the 1930's in Central Florida. Its odd how when you purchase the home almost everyone will cover you for at a $900 policy, but when its time to renew, they require you to put a new roof, new plumbing, new wiring or will drop you. Then you have no choice but to go with Citizens Insurance... and this company is pretty much a cartel.

We paid $1200/year in 1992. Andrew destroyed our home and the insurance company paid to replace it. We paid twice as much in premiums for our brand new replacement home. By 2015 our premiums had increased to almost $9,000/year and we'd been through 5 different companies including Citizens. In 2016 we found a company that offered a policy for $5800 if we put in a new electrical panel, pool fence, and reinforced the garage door and front entry door. That was a no-brainer that cost us $3500. Left Florida in summer of 2016 and purchased a home of equal value in the Inland Northwest. Yearly premium on our new place is $500. Auto insurance is half as much as we paid in South Florida.

You can call your insurance agent if you have one and tell him/her an address and they will quote it for you. We were considering buying a house in Florida and the real estate agent told us her insurance was about 1/5 of what it actually came out to be when I had it quoted. Shocking that she wasn't honest.

The outrageous Cost of Insurance mainly home but auto also, should definitely be high on the decision making list when thinking of moving to Florida. The cost of the insurance and the constant increases and or cancellation of policies, can and will determine for many whether they can afford a home in this state. I pay almost $500 for a very small 2 bed home in Ocala. I received all the discounts that Nationwide gives for Homeowners, or it would have been alot more. I paid to have the Wind Inspections for the roof which gave me the added discounts. My roof is a newer one, State Farm quoted me $2100 for the same exact policy. Thing is you never know from year to year down here how much of a jump in price your facing. They could be way over your budget.

Another thing to really be careful when buying a home down here is the agents. The Homeowners Ins is a major part of the purchase here and you need to know, what the cost of the policy is before your well under way with buying the home . Simply because it may be completely unaffordable forcing you to look for another home. The RE agents are not always completely helpful on that end, and may not provide you info such as what is the current owner paying. Or tell you the cost will be ok in this area only for you to find out, the cost of the Ins is way more than you can deal with.

Really be careful and do alot of research on where your moving to and getting yourself into. I ended up going to an insurance agency that gave me quotes from a number of companies. I was shocked Nationwide was the cheapest and was even more shocked, how the cost from one to the other was so different.

I found buying a home in Florida was much more stressful and the feeling of people not being honest and fair with me very concerning, Much more so than anyplace I had ever dealth with before, and I have been around in my life.

I pay $900 annually for homeowners insurance, though that is going up some in 2021. That's for a 2017 cement block single-story house, 2000 sq ft. I'm 6 miles in from the Gulf south of Sarasota, but not in a flood zone. I purchase optional (peace of mind) flood insurance for $500/yr.

I have a family member on the East Coast and the insurance on a 2500 sq ft home, built in 2017 is about $1,500.00 a year. No flood zone and just west of the 95 in central FL. Total coverage is about $450,000.00 for the home, etc.
