I'm gonna at least check all bolts and threads so that if I need to put shutters up I won't be stressing with a storm approaching and running to Ace Hardware for some work-around. Have done that once and learned my lesson.

Lol, Florida better add some land on to what we already have = need space for all these arrivals (immigrants, refugees, evacuees). Yikes!! I hope it does NOT hit the island. Too many lives and property would be lost! Angela

Default Accuweather sees risk of hurricane striking Florida panhandle, west coast next week

<<But, systems that move into the central Gulf of Mexico in late September and October rarely track westward and hit Texas. This is due to increasing west-to-east steering winds this time of the year around the Gulf and the southern U.S. These same conditions may cause the storm to be pulled northward to the central Gulf Coast or may turn the storm to the east toward the Florida west coast.>>

I'm now very, very nervous. This is not looking good for the west coast of Florida where I am. I'm thinking Irma, as nerve-wracking as that was, will have been a walk in the park compared to what's coming. Sure hope I'm wrong!

Stay safe everyone.

If this hurricane does strike the west coast of Florida, it will be interesting to see if the models yet reflect rapid intensification in the last 24-48 hours before landfall as hurricanes move over the warmer waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Intensity forecasts perhaps should be viewed as "minimum" intensity forecasts until the experts have proven that they can accurately predict rapid intensification.

Hurricane Irma made landfall in Cuba before hitting Florida, weakening it considerably from a Category 5 hurricane. This hurricane may just graze Cuba, according to some forecasts.

The potential intensity of this hurricane will be much better known by Monday, but it will be interesting to see what is said about the potential for rapid intensification.

Barrier islands once again will be particularly vulnerable to direct strikes.

nope...they predicted Irma's intensity spot on

https://www.researchgate.net/figure/...fig2_342528875

intensity can be misleading

friction with land causes the eye to spin down smaller.....which increases ”intensity”
