This was a very large nice home. They said looked very clean. Is it normal? He said it was due to the weather there. I wouldn’t think that was the case. They owners said they would have someone come out and spray but my friend just sprayed some raid and that seemed to work.

Pretty sure most homeowners pay for pest control so roaches aren't seen on a weekly basis. But I've heard you can occasionally still find them in your home.

If it was just a couple or three really huge ones, well just give them cute names and put down a "large roach" roach motel under the kitchen sink, in the corner at the base of the dishwasher, another behind the fridge (just shove it back there with a stick), and one behind the microwave. You can make up stories about them when you catch them being attracted to the one behind the microwave.

If it was a bunch of them scurrying away when you turn the lights on, that's an infestation, and something to be concerned about.

Depends how many roaches.

A couple here and there is definitely normal, even with pest control - though with pest control they should be either dead or dying if seen.

If there has been a lot of rain recently, they will tend to wander inside trying to find dry ground. But they should die fairly quickly if the house is getting sprayed.

I'll see a roach or palmetto (look like roaches) maybe once a month. Most homes have pest control that come out every 4-6x per year as maintenance.

As others have said, one or two, or a LARGE one, perfectly normal.

A bunch scurrying around when you turn the lights on, and you've got a problem. A SERIOUS problem.

Maybe I haven't lived in Florida long enough...been here 7 years and have never had roaches on a "regular" basis. We had one or two when we moved into our house and immediately called pest control...nothing since then.

I don't think it's normal.

I never EVER see roaches (dead or alive) in my Tampa home. It is NOT normal if you have good pest control.

However, seeing roaches in a vacation rental in Florida is somewhat normal considering that many Florida property owners either A, have crappy pest control, B, have no pest control at all, or C, think renters/guests/vacationers should be perfectly fine with tolerating roaches in the kitchen or bathroom. I would ask for a full refund.

As with most things Florida, it depends on where you live. Just like I literally have massive alligators right here in my backyard, some folks in urban areas have never seen one in the wild despite having lived in the state for years.

I had a house in a very wooded part of Lake County a few years back. Lots of dead leaves, etc. in the yard. Roaches love that. One or two would find their way in once in a blue moon. Where I live now, close to shore, I haven't had any at all.

AirBnB isn't going to issue a refund unless the place was filthy and/or there was an infestation. A handful of bugs isn't going to harm anyone.
