My business was part of the 2021 stats. Its cheaper to own a business here than in Georgia, and Florida leaves you totally alone.

Florida also didn't sell all of my data to every spammer on Earth like Georgia did, and continues to do to this day.

They have "handymen" "companies" here that claim they're licensed and insured.

But they only accept cash.

And if you try to check out their license, they either don't actually have one, or they got one a couple years ago and let it expire. They only got it so they could display a valid-looking number, and most people don't bother to check them out.

Then the customers get burned, and the "company" changes its name after the Seniors Against Crime organization gets involved.

Totally agree. However not all who want cash only are scammers. Being the small man, self employment taxes are very high so I understand they don't want to take credit cards or checks.

Self employment taxes are higher than w2 taxes and working for someone. I sometimes think the government has higher tax rate for self employed knowing you're pocketing some off the books.

Yep. Take one look at the Sunbiz.org business search and a large majority of business names are inactive. Also, it’s cheaper to start a new llc than to reinstate one that lapsed on renewal fees.

Oddball list. I wouldn't expect places like MI, NJ, IL on it. NY, CA makes sense due to the large size of the states.

Is this translating into increases in the local economies?
