Hmmm, maybe I need to open up a Golf Cart Biz.

When Kevin and Barbara Garrett were looking for a place to retire, they considered Southern California, Georgia and South Carolina. But the couple ultimately decided that Florida offered the ideal combination of warm weather and affordable housing.

“Florida just kept calling to me,” says Kevin Garrett, 64. “Florida was the hands-down winner.”

The Garretts moved from Idaho after they bought a place in 2021 in Latitude Margaritaville, an active-adult community in Daytona Beach. Florida has marketed itself as a retirement destination for a long time, and the state continues to attract retirees, even as its housing costs rise and its appeal shifts.

Funny thing is Idaho also is starting to attract a lot of retirees.

Interesting Daytona mentioned. With the housing cost of south Florida getting higher, more crowded I think places further north on the peninsula will become more popular to retire.

It gets colder up there but still tolerable in the winter. Places like Citrus and Hernando counties for example housing is still cheap and its not as cold as the Panhandle.

As we in south Fl get too crowded and expensive I can see those counties growing more.

I hope the "locals" welcome them. I am still hoping housing returns to normal, whatever that may now mean.

California is better for working families. Florida is better for retirees. Cali is more expensive, but Florida is catching up and has significantly lower wages across most professions. If you are retired, who cares about low wages? Although, good luck finding someone to pour that margarita for you.

Or quality medical care in these backwater counties where all of the new construction for seniors is taking place. What type of top-tier MD is going to find that appealing with substandard hospitals and ****-poor schools?

For Floridians who've lived here any length of time, all these Corporate Media stories you're posting are 100% captain obvious. Literally decades old news.

You said it perfectly. Have I ever learned about that in Marion County. Most difficult place I have ever lived to find Specialist, or an actual Internal Medicine doctor that's taking patients. Only place I have ever lived where my Blue Cross Insurance is not welcome with some doctors or labs. I can understand why far to many top-tier doctors would not come to this area. I believe the Health Care Grade for hospitals in Ocala is C- and D at least it was a few months ago.

Your right all this new construction for homes in these type regions of Florida for seniors as well as all ages, but far to limited for Medical Care.
