I have a relative who lives in the path of Ian. She also has another family home in another state, out of Ian's reach. I asked if she was going up there. She said if she left then she'd go bonkers worrying about her place down there. They stayed and never lost electricity.

Living inland is not bad. Years in Orl/Winter Park ...I took a 55 min drive to New Smyrna Beach...sweet deal.

If I lived in a hurricane exposed area, I'd have a bug out location designated and ready to go. Even if you survive the direct hit, living without electricity, maybe water, and other services (when will stores reopen?) will NOT be pleasant.

And what about your vehicle? That salt water wrecks everything...
We all got educated on that with Sandy in the NJ area.

I would be driving to very high ground fast!! 40 miles away if need be...just sleeping
in my vehicle if I had to till the water receded...with my pets.
I worked in Key West and restaurants had ALL their equipment up about 2.5 feet 'at least'!
Just an interesting aside.

And it wasn't like I couldn't afford repair men..it's that who could find anyone.. with so many homes damaged!!!
Took 2.5 months for my old tree cutter to get to me! Gee whiz.

(Also ended up doing my own concrete work, easy to learn ...$70 for the bags ...guy was gonna
charge me $900...now would be $1200...for simple concrete work. )
Awesome! Love that you did it yourself.

It depends. If there is a CAT 5 headed for my house I am outta here, but if its just 60 mph winds, some rain I'm stayin'. As long as my house doesn't fall down around me I am good. For example when Matthew ripped through here with almost 100 mph winds we evacuated, Irma the same, Ian we stayed, there was 50 mph winds and 4 inches of rain. Gulf hurricanes are pretty tame by the time they get here. Atlantic ones are a real danger.

Not true. Tell this to those that suffered through Katrina, Camille, Frederick, Ida, etc…
