Hello! I'm hoping for some experienced opinions on good hotels (cleanl! convenient on route) and routes to take driving from NYC to Saint Augustine with children. Do you like to do the drive with one overnight or two nights on the road? Where do you recommend staying for those nights and where do you like to stay in or around St. Augustine? Thanks for your help!

Stay overnight around the NC/SC border. The best route, if you are looking for the fastest time is I-95.

we've driven from ny to fl a few times. we drive I-95. There's a book and website called something like "drive I-95"... google it and get the book. It's well worth it. Where you want to stay depends on how many hours you're willing to cover in a day. what we usually do is drive to Lumberton, NC and stay at the Comfort Suites Inn on the way down, and on the way home drive to Roanoke Rapids, NC and stay at the Sleep Inn. Doing it like that takes us more than 1/2 way for each way. we leave ny (I'm right where ny/nj/pa meet) at 5am and drive till about 5pm, stopping at state welcome centers and picnicing w/ food in a cooler the first day, and eating dinner when we get to Lumberton. Then leaving about 7am the next morning, and we hit orlando by 3pm, so you'd hit st. augustine before that. it works well for us.

hth! have fun!
