I have a sneaking suspicion that many of the 54 murdered people in Miami, or the 91 in Jacksonville, were involved in activities or circumstances that had a direct bearing on their demise.

I remain less than frightened.
I will stay away from the hot spot in the larger cities....

You know, they just caught the guy who probably committed the 1st murder of 2007 in Orlando.

Now, if they only catch the other... well 200 or so others in the Orlando Metro area, we would all sleep better. But will that stop or curb the crime problems. I think not.

I will be honest, after 5 years, doesn't it seem like Central Florida is going all ghetto? Seems like all sorts of "undesirables" from other places in the country come down here to have fun and hurt families! I don;t feel safe at all in Orlando, not even where we live by Windermere.

Our non-existent legal system rolls out the red carpet for them!

Whenever you see these molesters, murderers etc, they are all on probation, CC, parole, bond, etc for other violent crimes. That should tell you something. Back in the late 60's - early 70's the Florida taxpayers were just dying to have liberal judges and state attorneys. We have them now!

Also, I haven't seen one person in this thread post anything that will substantiate the claims about the murder rate. I'd like to see the data, from "city after city", before I get alarmed. I certainly haven't seen anything where I live that would frighten me or cause me to rush to any decisions...
you need to start reading The Bradenton Herald. Here are a couple of the stories:

Wednesday Police Briefs:
Manatee: Man carjacked: an 18 yr old Ruskin man was carjacked by five to six men in ski masks Monday evening in the 6100 block of U.S. 41North according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office media release....

Thursday Police Briefs:
Rubonia: A Rubonia man told the Manatee County Sheriff's Office five masked men kicked in the door of his home Wednesday evening, tied him up and robbed him with his young son watching...

Man Attacked/Robbed: ...he told investigators from the Manatee County Sherrif's Office that his attackers were two men wearing ski masks and dark clothing who approached him as he left his cousin's house, one pulling a black pistol...

If you want the full stories and the police bulletins you can go to the Manatee County Sherriff's Office website, just google it and hit press releases and or just keep reading the paper....

You think I'm kidding...not

Default P.S....just for laughs...

Bucket attack reported (This is not news of the weird...actual police briefs)
Manatee: A Bradenton man was arrested late Friday after striking another man in the head with a plastic bait bucket sending him to the hospital...

Manatee: A man who couldn't hot wire a neighbor's all-terrain vehcle Saturday instead pushed it away accouding to Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports...

Can it get any funnier? Wait, today's Thursday, Tonight & tomorrow night will bring the undercover prostituion stings!

You could find and post 1,500 such articles and it would still represent only 1/100th of 1% (.01%) of the population. Such things happen everywhere, not just Florida. They happen more often in bigger cities and less often in rural areas, and usually happen at a greater frequency in cities outside Florida. They happen most often to people who are involved with drugs or alcohol, people who are generally "asking" for it. If you remove all of the gang, drugs and alcohol related violent crimes, the frequency drops so low it's almost impossible to detect.

My point is, these things have almost nothing to do with 99.99% of the population, and are just not worth worrying about.

There were over 3,000 people killed in vehicle accidents in Florida last year; have you stopped riding or driving in a vehicle?

I have to agree with pslOldTimer. Yes, the rise in crime in FL concerns me and I hope our new governor addresses the issue very soon, but what really upsets me is the rise in violent crime in America. The first rise in over 10 years, if I remember correctly. I come from small town Ohio. Most people on this forum would consider my old area very quiet. They've already had a drive by shooting. We need to get control of crime all over the US.
