Below is a link to an article in Today's Sentinel regarding a new insurance company offfering coverage in Florida.

New insurer is willing to take on Florida's risky business -- OrlandoSentinel.com

It is a new company - how would you know if they would pay out and not go under?
Also, I don't know if their rates are competitive, but worth checking out if you are having trouble finding other coverage. That doesn't seem to be an issue here in Central Florida anymore. I'm getting ads in the mail from companies wanting to see me HOI, but it may still be an issue in South Florida.

I would be leery of a new insurance company myself if they are an unknown company.

But I also know that alot of companies are not writing new policies. That would be scary going with an unknown company.

I think they will write one if you just bought your house but if it is preexisting they are not writing new policies for people who wish to change so shop around before you leap.
