Seriously? Yeah. Take everything you might hate about the cold in Boston, and that's how bad the heat is here. It starts getting bad in April, and doesn't really give up until sometime in November, with very few exceptions. And what really can p*** you off, is when after all of that, the winter ends up sucking, and you are trick r treating with your kids and sweating your arse off because it's 88 degrees at 8pm. Or when you are hanging christmas lights in December and it's in the upper 80's and humid.

So yeah, the heat really is this bad. If you are someone who hates extremes, this is not the place for you.

It's a sub-tropical environment in Sarasota. If you like warm weather, you should be fine. The only real adjustment is having to use the AC constantly in the summer months. But it's great because there's no leaves to rake here, or snow to shovel.

My husband does not like shoveling snow. He does not like raking leaves. He also does not like MOWING THE LAWN. Can you escape the latter too in Florida?

What is the solution? LANDSCAPERS. They will mow your lawn, rake your leaves, AND shovel your snow. Of course, for ANY of those services, you will have to PAY.

The other solution is to RENT an apartment. Then the owner will have to do all of the above for you.

Last night was absolutely gorgeous weather wise, especially with the breeze. The humidity is definitely starting to taper off.

Well, if you avoid living someplace with an HOA, you could do your yard in Florida so that you don't have to mow grass--because you don't really have any grass. That's what I'm going to do--I'm going to do my yard more like a hiking trail/garden. You usually wouldn't be able to do that if you choose to live under HOA nazis.

I suppose in Lawn Guyland, again as long as you're not in an area with an HOA, you could do something to cover your driveway so you don't have to shovel it, although that might be more difficult . . . but on the other hand, in this decade so far, you can count how many days it has snowed most years in New York City and the metro area on two hands--often even one, and it hasn't been sticking more than two or three days at the most--it's just as likely to be completely gone by the next afternoon. If you want a "winter season" with a fair amount of snow, you might have to move someplace other than Lawn Guyland in the future. Whatever the cause of global warming, so far it has changed the climate and weather patterns here so it just hasn't snowed very much recently.

By the way, at my apartment, the owner has never bothered to shovel any snow . . . although of course I don't have a driveway. It really depends on what your owner/landlord is like (mine is kind of a glorified slum landlord).

When I was a kid in West Palm Beach, more often than not Halloween was cool enough to have to wear a jacket . . . and too often it was rainy. I can remember that well because pretty much from late elementary school most of the way through high school (I didn't stop trick or treating until most folks at the homes I went to said, "Oh, Dad is getting candy too??"--who wants to pass up free candy? Not me--heck, I even went trick or treating a few times when I was in college), my friends and I almost always went as Kiss for Halloween, and quite a few times we'd be annoyed at having to put a jacket over the costumes we worked so hard to make, and the rain would eventually cause our make-up to start running. I'm sure it was warm to hot a couple times, too, but that wasn't the norm.

I've only been back to West Palm on Halloween a couple times since then--I think the last time was in 2006. I escorted a couple of my nephews as they trick or treated (couldn't get them to dress as Gene Simmons, though, lol). And while I don't remember it being cool, I don't remember it being very wam either.

I think there's a way to look up temperatures on the Internet for specific dates in past years. I can check for that.

I was referring to MANHATTAN. If the sidewalks are not shoveled, NYC will severely fine the management or coop board. Please remember I am from Manhatan, not "Lawn Guyland", as you so eloquently put it. It is very rare anyway for snow to stick in Manhattan. I can go back a LOT longer than you since I am turning 60 this year. When I did live on LG, we didn't HAVE HOA's. I would go outside and more often than not, somebody would come by and offer to do it for me. Aren't I lucky? That tends to happen when you are a woman over a certain age and about 100 lbs soaking wet. Anyway, I was very please with the snow we did get. I well remember the blizzard of 1977. It rarely does that anymore.

It is too hot you mow your own lawn when the heat index is over 100 degrees in the summer in Naples. YES, that is what it is. I am sure you will find something to say it isn't. My husband was mowing his sister's while she was up in NY. When he almost had heat stroke one day, he came to his senses. He wouldn't do it fo himself, why do it for her? He told her to pay somebody. She hired a Mexican guy.

Yeah, it turns into black sludge that messes up your shoes and spatters your clothes.
