Who really cares? Most apartments in the NYC metro are (including suburbs) aren't THAT much different. I'm a simple person and I don't need "amenities." I have an average size apartment that i'm content with. As long as it's safe, I can shower, I can cook, and I can have someone sleepover, i'm fine with that apartment. It's pretty nice being so close to anything in the world that I want. I can walk 10 minutes to get Egyptian food, Moroccan, Chinese, Italian, you name it. All within 10 minutes of walking.

I miss Queens. (born in Forest Hills)You are in a great spot being so close to everything. I would love to live in a walkable area like that. Sometimes it's just too much trouble to have to take a car for everything.

well like I said, those apts are fine if you only own 3 or 4 personal possessions. And if your landlord will allow you to install a murphy bed in the wall you can get some space.
