I just got my tax bill & our taxes went down over $200.00!! I talked to our neighbors, & theirs also went down.

We live in Stuart, & I was wondering if other sections of Florida saw the same decrease...

Mine went down from approx $2,800 to $2,300. 1/2 acre vacant lot went from $700 to $450.

I would expect that taxes will go down even more significantly next year, am I right? A friend of a friend is about to close on an '07 built 4BR/2BA 2,000 living sf home here in Hernando County, which sits on 1/2 an acre. He's buying it for $105K! It was built by what seems like a good builder when I looked at models (Michael's Homes).

Wow!! Great deal on that house!! I'm not sure if the decrease is from that amendment that was passed a few months ago, or if it's due to something else....

I live in Hernando right now.Yes there are some nice homes to be had for a good price right now.I have a love/hate relationship with Hernando SH area.Nice clean quiet safe less expensive area that when you are home is a nice place to be.

Problem is any decent work more than likely means a 40 mile one way commute to Tampa or Clearwater area.80 miles a day(2 hrs) commute gets old.Plus the fact depending on your lifestyle most night life is back down where the work is also.

I have stuggled wondering if Hernando county is worth the commute both for work and going out for nightlife and basically have decided it is not.Would rather pay a liitle more for the same to go down to Port Richey or Hudson, cuts that commute in half.Only problem with that is most areas down there are deed restricted and older homes. The "right" house is easy to find in Hernando, not so much going south.Go into Tarpon Springs or Palm Harbor and a house going for 105k like your friends doubles in price down there.

my property taxes went down a few hundred too but so the value of my house went down a whole lot more! I think I'd rather pay the $200 and have my house worth what I paid!

Ditto to the $200 drop in RE taxes on my Tampa home. It's not enough, but it's a start!

Funny, I was re-assessed this year 1st time since '99 & my value went up slightly, but yet my taxes went down...

I think they use the "I Love Lucy method" & take all the papers, throw 'em in the air, & which ones land face up get upped in value...
