My wife grew up in Arcadia and loved it.

I'll ask her about Arcadia Village.

Is there anything else you wanted to know about Arcadia?

I live in North Port as well and really like it! Insurance is pretty reasonable here. To give you an example, my home was built in 2003, 2127 under air, hip roof, not in a flood zone, no pool. I pay just over $800 per year.

There are very few areas in North Port that are in flood zones, so you usually don't have that expense. I would however recommend purchasing flood insurance since it is the number one natural disaster that damages homes. Because in most areas in North Port it is not required the cost is much less.

Some things to pay attention to when looking at homes and considering insurance are: the age of the home, the style of roof(usually hip roofs are better), how close it is to a fire hydrant or natural body of water, if it's in a flood zone. Those points are some of the big ones. Another thing you can do to reduce insurance costs is to have your home inspected by the state of Florida for its wind safety www.MySafeFLoridaHome.com The cost usually runs around $150 and can also reduce insurance costs.

I live of Chamberlain road in North Port and I think Mikey lives in a community in North Port. There are virtually no traffic problems in North Port except in the morning when the school buses are driving around. The city is widening many of the roads and also adding turn lanes to many of the major roads in North Port right now so you may hit some delays with that. It takes me 5 minutes or so to get from one end of town to another.

"3). I was at a popular fruit stand and the guy who runs it carries a gun (don't all fruit stand workers do that?). He has a lady with a thick southern accent working there. I asked her about a large plate full of money just sitting there in the open. "Aren't you afraid someone is gonna just grab that money when you're not looking?"
She just gave me this dead-pan look and said: "Where y'all gonna run to?""

Hahaha. That's awesome; that's old school FL from back in the day... I wish most of FL was still like that. Good folks, friendly, southern....

How about this one....true story....

I'm walking into work and a woman who lives in Arcadia starts talking....

She says: "damn kids, just outta school and already geet'in inta trouble"

me: "oh yeah"

she: "ya they're out catchin' gators"

me "huh??"

she: "yeah, and they're puttin'em in my bathtub"

me: "whhhaaaattttt???

she: "yeah, and when I tellum to geetum outta there they say they're gonna put'em in the neighbors pool"

me: "you're kidding, right?"

she: "well, I said I'm gonna tell the neighbor to whup their ass if they do that"

me: "this can't be true"

she: "yeah, and the worst part is I'm gonna have to take the gators out of the bathtub myself and bring'um back to the river".

the next day she showed me cell phone picture of the aligator in her bathtub.

Needles to say that was the first time in my life I've ever had someone tell me story like that.

Mikey

bigrock,

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. My husband and I were in Florida for the holidays and just got back. I am so sorry I came home. It is cold and snowing. Anyhow, we are very familiar with Hightlands County. When we go on vacation we go to Spring Lake just outside of Sebring. I love that area. We are really looking for a 55 community and the pickings are very slim in Sebring. Have any suggestions?

pch

we checked out Tanglewood. It is a very expensive place to live. It's a very nice community but we thought the monthly expenses were on the high side.
