I'm a native Floridian and even this one has me stumped!

I'm going to be in the Levy/Citrus county area for a bit over the next few weeks and was wondering if there are any good beaches in the area. I'll admit to knowing very little about that particular part of the Florida coast (I have been to Cedar Key before), but my impression has always been that the "Nature Coast" is mostly swamps and wetlands north of Pinellas County until you reach the Panhandle beaches. Is that true, or are there actually some decent beaches in the area? I'm not the type who 'has' to have pristine white sand and crystal clear water; just a nice beach, not some murky swamp, to enjoy on this little mini-vacation of sorts w/out much driving

Could be in Dixie, Levy, Citrus, or Hernando counties. Further than that, and driving to the east coast beaches would be close to the same distance...

I like Pine Island in Hernando Co. Take a left on SR 50 off of 19 and I believe it's HWY 495, just follow the signs and stay to your right. Last time I was there it was only $2.00 to park all day. It has nice sand, nice clean water, a playground ,food stand, restrooms, showers. It's beautiful out there and not to crowded like Pinellas beaches are.
