Well Florida is a big state, But since you mentioned Pensacola to Panama Beach. I think it is possible the people there aren't as open minded as some places in Florida, But there are of people who are there though. I would recommend Ft Walton Beach, Crestview, Navarre/Gulf Breeze, Milton, Santa Rosa Beach, Destin, and Panama city. All of them have awesome schools, and the people there are pretty open minded.

Stay in the metro areas you will be fine. But $800 for 3br will be hard just about anywhere in Florida.

Less than $800 a month in Okaloosa County for a 3 bedroom would probably either put you in the hood or somewhere up by the Alabama border. The Air Force really does drive up rents for properties that you would actually want to live in. $800-$900 a month gets you a decent number of options in Crestview, but the school options aren't as good as they are in the south part of the county, and you're further away from the beach, good shopping, and a lot of the area restaurant jobs.

Florida is for you, but you may find it difficult to find a 3BR for $800, unless you're in a trailer or a poorer part of town!
