I wouldn't consider that touristy, I would consider that trashy. That sounds like the bars I've seen in Ft. Lauderdale or Miami.

I have lived all over Fl and would highly recommend Sarasota or Melbourne. I grew up in the st. petersburg/Clearwater area and there are very nice white beaches over there, but a lot of them still get 'touristy' with t-shirt shops. Don't go anywhere near Miami! i lived there for the last four years and it is totally insane with the plastics and weirdos! I live in Melbourne now and it is surprisingly peaceful and natural. It is kinda like the city that Florida forgot and now looks/acts like the rest of Florida did 30 years ago! Satellite beach and indiatlantic beaches are right off the coast of melbourne and very family frienldly with parks and natural landscaping.
