I would appreciate any recommendations to Land owned 55+ communities in Florida. I'm not set on any specific area, though would like the HOA fees to be < $100/mo if possible. Well maintained and active communities would be priorities. Thanks for any suggestions.

A friend of mine has a place in Leesburg called Hawthorne. You can google it, they have a website.
Very active, with nice pools, indoor hot tubs, saunas, golf greens, a marina with boat slips to the Harris chain of lakes, etc, etc.

My friend owns a "palace" up north, but loves Hawthorne more. I like the place myself.....Gated with 24/7 security, with fire and sheriff's close by. Very safe, friendly.

It's in Central Florida, so Hurricanes are not quite the risk as they are by the coast.

If you go to this web site, seniormobiles.com, you can query it any way you want and it will give you a listing of available manufactured homes for sale and you just need to put in that you want to own the land and see what comes up. Good Luck!

Hi - I just read your post saying you have a friend that lives in Hawthorne and likes it.

We are currently living in Pittsburg and just spent 2 months at The Villages. While we thought it was nice, we had friends that told us to check out Hawthorne. We went there and had the tour and went back two more times to look around and we loved it.

Unfortunately our two months were up and we had to head back north. We would definitely like to be living in Hawthorne next winter. The sales office will call when they have anything new to let us know about but we know there are a lot of "for sale by owners". We just don't know how we can be connected to these sellers.

We wondered if you are living there and would spread the word to any FSBO'ers. I'd be willing to give you my email address to hook them up with us.

Any other place to get information would certainly help. We did go to the site that someone suggested "seniormobiles.com" but they had no listings for Hawthorne.

We just loved it there and had the opportunity to attend a dance this past Friday night (our last night) and the people were all so very friendly.

Thanks to you and anyone else that might have any input or could help us.

Pat & Larry

I checked it out, but failed to see any way to tailor the search for certain parameters.

To own the land is very important, I would never pay hoa fees. I like 55 plus communities, but it's nice to have younger people around you. Too old of a community is depressing.

Not as big a risk, but hurricanes do make tornadoes forming in the center part of the state. Mobile homes seem to be a draw.
