I was just down in FL, near Sarasota I-75, I-4, and it was quite crowded, bumper to bumper even during off work times. Is it like this in the summer as well or does the traffic die down? I was there Feb 20-March-7, 2007. I would imagine that Florida if not already will not be able to handle this influx of people moving there on a daily basis.

It depends on where you're at. In Fort Myers/Naples, traffic dies down quite a bit, but the roads are far from empty. They're actually close to their true capacity (traffic might be heavy, but it flows well), during rush hour.

I don't know the Sarasota/Tampa area intimately enough to say if this is the case, year round, but I think it would be similar, at least to a certain extent.

About the only time traffic dies down anywhere in Florida anymore is when the news has talks of a hurricane coming. Then they all tuck their tails & run back up north.

Florida has had an increase in population over the last 10 years or so. I-75 has alot more traffic than ever. It is more-so during the winter months with the snowbirds.

I make the trip along I-10, down I-75, and down the Florida Turnpike a few times a year. This past weekend I drove North from West Palm to Tallahassee and was amazed at all the traffic. It wasn't bumper to bumper.... it just was a lot of volume. More than usual. I have never seen so much in the middle of the day on a "not holiday." Then I realized that it's Spring Break time in Florida, and think that might have to do with a lot of what I was seeing!

It is like a different world in the summer. You don't have to wait for favorite restaurants, golf is cheaper, traffic is less.

That may be true for most of FL, but the opposite is true for central FL/Orlando area. The winter is less crowded which is great because that's the best time of year to do things (besides the beach). Then in summer it gets more crowded due to everyone going on vacation here to the theme parks and other attractions. And the beaches near Orlando are far more crowded in the summer but I think that's more because of locals from the orlando area and costal communities who use them more during summer because the heat.

If you ever go to the villages it's much more quite in the summer than in the winter though.

This is our first year here (we moved down in November) but here in Marion County we've noticed a lot less traffic, and the restaurants are less crowded, too.

One of my husband's brothers lives on a golf course development in Ft. Myers, and he says 75% of his development decamps in the summer.

I know this is an old post but yeah, it depends upon where you are in FL. The southern part of the state tends to be more crowded in winter (Sarasota would have a lot of winter residents too) and the northern and central parts, more crowded in the summer (with the exception in my area of bike week, race weeks and college spring break).
