This thread was not started to list all the ills or as a bashing Florida post.

All states I believe have issues that are either equal to or worse then Florida so lets play nice and please do not make this into a Florida bashing thread. The idea is to try to form a list of things that would make Florida even a better place to live, work and play.

Please play nice and do not attack people and such.

If you could change one single thing in or about Florida what would it be?

I get to go first.

I would protect Florida's natural resources, history and coastline.

I would make it a law to make sure all land around and natural resource cannot be sold or developed.

I would protect the historical value of Florida, work hard to keep the older historical towns as they are or were, I am dead set against the total tearing down of city streets to build new buildings.

I would stop building high rises and condos along the coast, we have enough on the coastline for everyone already, no need to keep it going and totally land lock the ocean from those of us who love it.

Your next!

That over the last 30 yrs or so, the people that have moved here have to be normal, friendly, and honest people.

That all the people who say they do not want to be here would be forced to move immediately.

I would enact the blue laws, so all stores would be closed on Sunday.

I would change the suburban sprawl that dominates the Florida lanscape and build up and dense with many public transportation options.

I wish the downtowns would be the center of the action similar to NYC, SF, Seattle, Portland, Chicago etc.

Do you expect the same from those who have lived there longer?

Sounds like a good suggestion. No sense in anyone being unhappy.

Would that not even further the downward economy you think?

For someone who is leaving Florida for Philly wait until you see the sprawl in Philly, it will make anything in Florida look like a Trump Casino. Sorry, Philly has anything in Florida beat with the sprawl. Just my opinion and I have been in Philly tons of times, won't ever go back after being nearly robbed after a Phillies game last time. I have never been close to being robbed anywhere in Florida ever. Philly gives me the creeps.

Me too, great suggestions. I love the Florida old towns atmosphere.

We cannot change that but it sure would help those who cannot handle it.

Great ideas so far.

I hope to get time to respond to them all.

I don't think I would change anything. Fixing one thing often breaks another...
