It' official, today that had the list of the top 10 most expensive states to insure a home and FL was #4. But the average premium was said to be around $950.00. From everything I have been reading here, that sounds kind of low.

We are closing on a brand new home next week. Our homeowner's insurance rate is $972/year. And although we are not in a flood zone therefore flood insurance is not required, we choose to take out a flood policy as well, which is $317/year. I don't think those rates are bad at all.

Rates vary based on location. Rates are certainly going to be cheaper in the center of the state, than on the coast.

I didn't read the whole article but it did place Texas as having the highest homeowners insurance rates. Just piece of information for those who post here about moving to Texas.

NY wasn't even in the top 10!

I pay 700 a year now and out quote for FL was $1700.00
And we aren't even in a flood or wind zone.

Yes! I read that too this morning. Florida was listed #4 but when I saw that the annual premium amount they listed, I stopped. I don't think $995 (or so) is anywhere near close to even the lowest premiums I've seen or heard about. Mine is more than 6 times that! I'd love to know where they got that info.

Florida Home Owner's Insurance

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://money.aol.com/forbes/realesta...sive-insurance

Just wanted to brighten your day by sharing this with you. It looks like Fla. comes in fourth in the top ten for expensive insurance. Texas is number one for cost. This article also has links to other info that talk about where home prices have dropped the most. They mentioned Miami for a decrease. It should be a bit of comfort to know that you're not alone with struggling to pay for insurance premiums. Sorry MinnieMom, I just read the article and wanted to share it with you so I had started a thread before I saw yours. I'm trying to add my post to your thread. Hope it works.

Default In Texas

Insurance is about 950. for us in a newly built home and was 1100. for our last home built in 1978. That is without flood insurance. Flash floods happen alot in the same places over and over again, they make it sound like the whole state floods on the news. I live just north of Houston and while the water can get high, I have never been flooded. Those placees you see on the news are the same ones over and over again. Flood insurance is worth it anywhere though since the weather is crazy anymore.
