Though if you think about it, Florida's actually a closer biblical climate match to Bethlehem than most of the US is. The whole Dickens Victorian white Christmas deal is a relative latecomer in terms of holiday tradition.

I have lived here for 20 years, and dread the summers worse every year, reverse SAD makes total sense. My mom has SAD in the classic sense, and wont move back to Missouri no matter how much I beg.

I think I get Florida Seasonal Affective Disorder. I do not get depressed by any means, but this year we keep going cold to hot pretty quickly, the grass has gone brown in most areas, and it has been overcast and not raining. I am just so impatient for the spring to come and bring some rain so it feels lush again.

I'll take the "Dickens Victoria While Christmas". Or at the very least just cooler temps during the holidays. Florida has year round allergy issues, just because our temps allow there to be something always in bloom year round. Not to long ago, Florida didn't have a large population of people because of the heat, humidity, mosquitos, and other things. All because of the development of the A/C has it allowed people to live comfortably indoors here in Florida.

Now that I think about it, my Mom probably had Summer SAD also. She hated summers. I probably get my dislike of the beach from her. When my Dad could drag her (and me), she covered up from head to toe and sat under an umbrella. The few pictures we have of us at the beach are really comical: her in her "beach" gear and me crying my eyes out. From what I can remember, even my Grandma wasn't crazy about summers either. Interestingly, Mom's family was from Southern Italy; Naples (ironic) and Sicily. They certainly weren't from a cold weather country.

Yeah, if we just dumped sand all over the state of Florida it would be an authentic Christmas!!!

Florida's boom began in the 1920's

That's not to long ago, in the big picture of things. Less than 100 years is nothing.

laughing out loud, thanks

I have had both seasonal disorders. Living in Houston,Texas most my life brought on an intense dread of summer. We have had temps in the 90's at the end of Oct. Most of September is usually in the nineties. Summer lasts forever in Houston. October is hot too. My husband was transfered to Kansas city,MO. 2 years ago, and now I get depressed in Jan. and Feb. Having a home in a "partial basement" where the windows in the kitchen are very high up and small is like living in a dungeon during the winter. It's horrible! In other words the back of the house is dug in to the ground.

We didn't have basements in Texas. That's why I'm looking here in the Florida forums. Anybody have any suggestions of their favorite places in Florida to come visit in Jan. or Feb.?
What is Disney World like in those months? Is it a ghost town? Is it even open? Has anyone camped at Fort Wilderness then? I think weather.com says Orlando averages in the 70's during Jan. and Feb.
I appreciate any advice. I've never had the pleasure of visiting your beautiful state. And, knowing how similar the heat and heat index is to Houston, Texas, I think I'll just come during the winter.
