I am currently in NY and work as a invesigator for the state. I really want to move to Flroida, but I am wondering if it is wise at this time in my life. Early forties. I have friends in Kendall but do not have the money to afford to buy right now. I need a house for rent ideally..not to pricey. Does anyone know the surrnoding area and housing area names, I need to start somewhere. Housing prices seem almost the same as NY yet salaries are smaller....Still I love the weather and am wlling t make some compromise. Any help...pointers etc. will greatly be appreciated!

Kendall stretches for miles from US-1 to Krome Avenue. The further you are from your job the worse the commute, there is no useable public transportation. Older areas to the east are much nicer than those to the west. Please don't give up your good job and salary to move to the boring hell hole called Kendall, especially out west. Remember west is worst!

Yes, I'm with Tallrick on this - do not move to Kendall. It's bland, boring, traffic is insane, there are virtually no parks or open spaces and there's simply nothing to do, unless you fancy a great night out at the Kendall Ale House where you'll be so bored that you'll want to shoot yourself before the night is out!

Seriously...Kendall, no.

I wouldn't be so adament as tallrick and nothingman - one thing for certain, the traffic in Kendall and is bad. There are many other areas to consider if you want to stick to Miami-Dade or other nearby counties.

Come down and visit a little more often, drive around and explore south Florida. When I first moved down here, we rented a condo near the beach (everyone loves living near the beach at first) and we loved it. Then we began exploring and ended up in Broward county west of the ocean. Explore the area and make certain that you can make a living.

I think I should make a video of a typical Kendall commute. That will help you decide whether or not to move there.

To be honest, the traffic aspect is my main gripe about life in Kendall. As jhlcomp said, explore South Florida as a whole and try to aim for somewhere nearer the coast (if you can afford it). If I were you, I'd aim for Hallandale Beach or Fort Lauderdale....there are some NICE apartments to be found up there for less than you'd pay in Dade County. Kendall is a wasteland, to be honest. It looks great at first, but soon you realize that it's basically a ghetto. If you love spending a LOT of time in your car and if you like to "rideitlikeaford" down SW 88th Street in your souped-up Honda Civic, Kendall is your kinda town....otherwise, forget it!
