I agree with every word you said!!! I don't have much experience with the Emerald Coast either, but I am hoping to explore some of it within the next few weeks/month....pictures of it are gorgeous!!!

Default Emerald Coast on the gulfside

I haven't seen another beach anywhere that looks like WaterSound Beach on the gulf side. Imagine water crystal clear and like a bath.

It doesn't get much prettier than WaterSound.
However, Amelia Island isn't too shabby, and is dog-friendly.

.... and 20 minutes away, Cumberland Island is miles and miles of gorgeous, undeveloped beach--also dog-friendly.

There is pure beauty in those panhandle beaches, white powdery sands..............gorgeous.
But........I like waves and ocean swimming. I like most of the beaches on the East Coast........
UNTIL the red tide comes in ( good gosh) or there is a shark alert......Don't Swim! ( bigger gosh)

I prefer the Atlantic side. I like waves, and the water there is just prettier to me once you hit SoFla. In NoFla, though, I think the Gulf has the better beaches, but comparing the beachesof Naples and Fort Lauderdale, I'd take the east coast beaches anyday!

Cumberland Island is about 25 minutes north of Amelia Island, which is north of Jacksonville, FL.
Cumberland Island is actually across the state line, in Georgia.
