Explain further... Are you saying you like California more? I don't understand. As it stands, Florida is a tax haven like much of the South, American West, and maybe Delaware. We want to keep it that way. In order to do that, don't elect Democrats for the next few years because they are all involved in a giant entitlement frenzy, following the platform of Spender and Wealth Redistributor in Chief, O-spend-Ama.

History 101..... the political parties stood for different ideologies and transistioned over time. The "solid South" has always been loyal to the "conservative" party of the times....

And it takes a long time to forgive a party that ordered soldiers to burn down half your state (Georgia) and subjected the South to years of a military dictatorship and forced northern values on you from the barrell of a gun.... yeah I'd say it takes a long time to forgive a party that did that...

When the Democrats and Republicans "reversed" the political values over the 20th Century, the South switched the voting patterns...

1. The South was always hard core conservative.

2. Up until the 1960's, the Republican party was always viewed as the "liberal" party. It wasn't until the Civil Rights movement, when special interest groups permenantly hijacked the Democrat party, that the South almost unanimously switched parties overnight.

The election year was 1964 when this "reversal" occurred. Anyways, since the 1960's, the South has been a hostile place for Democrat politicians to get elected, with the exception of predominantly black Congressional districts which always go Democrat, like in LA or MS. However, this vote is usually not even close to winning majority, statewide elections for senators or governors.

Since 1964, Louisiana has elected a Democrat as Governor 6 out of 10 elections while Mississippi has elected a Democrat as Governor 8 out of 11 times in elections.

In Tennessee, It was 5 of 8 elections to Democrats
In Florida, It was 7 of 11 elections to Democrats
In Georgia, It was 7 of 8 elections to Democrats
In Alabama, It was 8 of 11 elections to Democrats
In South Carolina, It was 4 of 8 elections to Democrats
In North Carolina, It was 7 of 9 elections to Democrats

Oddly enough, The only two states people seem to be flocking to ( Tennessee, North Carolina ) are the only two states mentioned that currently have Democrats as Governors.

Unfortunately, I grew up in Florida with Florida history. I have learned quite a bit of Tennessee history though.

I know that Tennessee as a whole is a very conservative state in the country, like most states are. In the metro cities of Memphis and Nashville, That's different.

If you want to use 1964 as the date because of minorities being allowed to vote then that's fine. Tennessee has elected 5 Democratic Governors out of 8 total times since 1964.

Since 1963 when the City of Nashville and the County of Davidson merged into One Metropolitan Government, The citizens of Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County have elected a Democrat as Mayor 6 times in 6 elections.

Curiously, but didn't Obama win the state of Florida in the 2008 election? It seems that Florida may not be as conservatively entrenched as some are posting.

Considering Al Gore won Florida in 2000 ( Before baby Bush stepped in to help his brother win ) Florida is liberal state for the most part. How could it not be ?

Can't help but wonder how the U.S. would have fared with Gore in office vs. Bush.. I'm sure it couldn't have been worse but speculation is just that.

To say if it wasn't for you Northerners that Florida would fall flat is pure bull. I am tired of snow birds, transplants or whatever saying if it wasn't for them we all wouldn't have anything. As one twerp told me if it wasn't for them coming down here we all would be picking cotton. I told him nope we would be picking oranges and if he wanted cotton he would have to go further north.

I have lived in both California and Florida. They are completely different. The attitudes are different etc.
