At one point, the Destin Publix was set up with a small seating area next to the sub counter and the sub counter had its own cash register so you could pay there and eat at the tables.

But no one other than employees ever ate there, so the seating was taken out and that space became part of the adjacent Public liquor store expansion. Grocery store margins, even for the big P, are pretty slim, and you can't be paying for store space that just isn't being utilized.

Come to think of it, none of the Publix's I've been into with a seating area are ever used.

They are used. They aren't ever full or anything, but people do use them.

That's where perception comes in. The ones I have been to are never used. I mean, I always see them empty. They may be more popular in other areas, but not so much in Brandon and Tampa.

Oh we had a seating area, right outside our publix and it was always utilized, buy their employees and mostly I guess buy people, they'd rather not make use of the seating area, so like a lot of seating in this city, the seating was removed some two maybe three years ago. Now I see most of the staff standing up against the wall or trying to find a place on the ground near the outside of the building to take a break.

For the most part, I do prefer the shopping experience at Publix over many of the other markets in the area in general, customer service is top notch. The one in my area is rather pricey, but as someone else mentioned, it varies store to store which items are more so pricey than others. BOGO works only for a few items for me since I mostly buy fresh/frozen veggies meats. The frozen veggies are less pricy at Walmart, so, unfortunately most of the BOGO items aren't usually things of interest to me. Having said that, I still shop Publix more so than other stores in the area, their food quality seems better most of the time. There's really not much competition in the area to compare them with to begin with near me anyway, I mean Winn-Dixie, Really? That's the nearest competitor after Walmart.

I don't see why employees would use the seating area. They have the break room for that, which has more amenities. Winn-Dixie is a joke, though. Whole Foods and now Trader Joe's do a good job with their stores in Florida, but they aren't really competing with Publix.

Winn-Dixie has a nice prepared-meal/deli area; That's it.

I don't know, but, I see people out there ever so often, some I guess are smokers, others, maybe they just want the quiet, but, there was a nice sitting area out on the side for a while that was removed where both store employees and others made use of to have a bite ever so often. I didn't use the seating area, but, it wasn't obstructional nor have they put anything in it's place, every once in a while there will be some shopping carts left there. I'm pretty certain it just eventually became a nuisance area for the store over all.
