I always go to SEARS because they have always been reliable and simple to deal with for any problem. guess that is why they have been around for years. They accept returns with no hassels. However, I have not ever had to return anything. I have found Kenmore to be a great product and long lasting.

Default Our new home and appliances

Hi Minniemom,
About 5 years ago we built our home here on Cape Ann in Ma. We used the builder's appliance dealer. They only sold for new construction but, had all brands. We went with all whirlpool stainless. We have the side by side fridge w/the h2O in the door. (love it) The dishwasher has the basket on the door, and no problems w/the compactor or the microwave. My only complaint is a boo boo I made. To save money, I have a black top on my gas stove instead of stainless. It is difficult to keep clean. The only appliance that is not WP is our small fridge inside our island for sodas, beer, ETC.
Hope this helps.
Suz

I always go to www.consumerreports.org to check on their reviews of appliances. I also go to epinions. Kenmore, Kitchen Aid, Whirlpool are all made in the same factory. I believe there may be others, but not certain. But go to the site - it will be a great starting point. You may have to subscribe, but it will be well worth it considering you will have access to a wealth of useful information.

Example: We bought white (we really wanted stainless steel) Kitchenaid a few years ago. The appliances are very good.

I buy roper appliances. They are made by whilpool but cost less (but same quality and durability). I would never buy another GE.

We have a subscription to snail-mail Consumer Reports. They really are helpful. Epinions helps as well, though they can be a bit spotty.
Regardless, I wouldn't let CR's opinions completely scare you away. In the thread in the House forum, I posted that the Asko dishwasher, which, according to CR, statistically is repair-prone, was wonderful and never gave us any trouble in the 7 years we had it before we moved.

According to the website I posted earlier, Whirlpool makes:
Admiral
Chambers
Crosley (newer fridges, a/c's and all portable washers)
Danby ( 8 )
Estate
Inglis
Ikea
Kenmore ( see Sears )
KitchenAid ( 4 )
Kirkland
Maytag Epic®
Roper
Speed Queen (Canada)
Sub Zero (undercounter ice makers)
Whirlpool

My place had a really nice GE side-by-side- water and ice in the door, the whole schtick. Almost new and very expensive, I'm sure. It was just too big for the space, so it is in our garage now.

I purchased a Sanyo with the freezer on the bottom for the kitchen. I had an Amana with the freezer on the bottom at another home and just loved it.

When I got the Sanyo, I also got an over-the-range microwave that is Sanyo and I'm happy with both.

I had a built-in oven/range until last year when we redid some of our kitchen. I now have a GE profile 5 burner gas range with convection and an over-the-range GE profile microwave.

Our original dishwasher had a leak so we replaced it a couple of years ago with a Maytag...had it less than 3 months and 2-3 service calls and finally they took it back and I got a Whirlpool.

Have a GE side by side refrigerator that is 15 years old and still going strong!

I would avoid Maytag appliances, as they are known for many problems these days - the quality of the old days is long gone.

I am personally VERY pleased with my new, wonderful GE range. It is a smoothtop with true convection oven, and it is wonderful. They consistently get high ratings with consumer reports, too.

Default It's Samsung, not Sanyo!

Just went into my kitchen and saw that the refrigerator that I have is Samsung. I posted that it was Sanyo previously.

The pix makes it look like the regular stainless, but it's like a platinum color and more similar to an enamel finish, although it's a metal finish. Very unique and the freezer actually has three separate drawer compartments. The temp of top and bottom is displayed digitally on the front. And it's very easy to clean.

Four years ago we bought all new appliances. Previously I had Frigidaire and loved it so I bought again. All I can say is that had I not gone with the extended warranty I would have been in major trouble. The appliances have been the worst I have ever owned. The dishwasher and fridge have been worked on at least 8 times. It was so bad that both had to be totally replaced. I will never buy from this company again. The only good appliance we got was the Maytag Gemini range. We went with it because it had double ovens. In four years, no problems with it. Everything else, pure junk.
