Haaaa, let me explain, you obviously didn't understand. I said with the exception of the last six months, we usually have 8 months of bad weather, meaning we only get 4 months of good weather.

I say we have 5 months of nice weather (to me anyway) and that is from Nov - March. It can be as cool as in the 40's and it can get up to 75, you just never know during these months. I cant stand it from June - Sept, those months are the worst. April, May, and Oct are ok, it just depends.

Well with the exception of the last 6 months, we usually have horrible heat and humidity 8 months out of the year here in South Florida. So I wouldn't say I enjoy that, I actually stay indoors those months to avoid the heat and humidity. I try to avoid the sun as much as possible, as a native floridian the dermatologist tells me I have higher chances of skin cancer, so I don't want to deal with that when I get older also the sun ages people alot, so I avoid it as much as possible. When I was a teen I met a woman who told me she was 60 something she looked like 30 something. I asked her what her secret was, she said she lived in NY most of her life and avoided the sun. I have never forgotten that, and since then have tried to avoid the sun, but I know I have already damaged my skin (they say you do all the damage to your skin before you are 18 that will haunt you later in life). Ohh, And then in the evening when it cools down to about 85F the mosquitos are out.
I could probably count the number of times I have been to the beach on all 10 fingers and toes. I turned 60 this year. NOBODY believes I am the age I am. I learned this from my Mom (born 1920) and my Grandma (born 1900), both of Italian heritage (warm climate). STAY OUT OF THE SUN. It not only ages you, it is not healthy either. I suppose they were both ahead of their times, or perhaps it was just passed down to them from their ancestors in Italy.

Since living in Florida, I have devloped a nasty skin rash, which starts about March and gets progressively worse by October. Besides medication, the dermatologist told me to never go OUTSIDE in Florida, without SUNBLOCK; not that I really want to anyway. I hibernate most of the year in Florida, but especially in the Florida summer. I am fortunate that I work in the schools, and really don't HAVE to go out in the summer. I stay inside.

Yes, I love the cold and snow, but what I really miss is those moderately cool (40/50s), rainy/MISTY days. I always went outside then and I still do the RARE days in Florida when it is like that. As that song said, "I love to fele the rain on face", etc., etc. This isn't better than the blazing sun, heat, and humidity on your skin?

Since our food is overloaded with Vitamin D additivies, I hardly think we need anymore Vitamin D from all the excessive sun. Besides, a whole lot of the people here look like mummies, and are probably half the age they look.

since we are in agreement on this. It was all about SUN and BEACHES, which since I used to live on an island, I had BOTH.

I also related what a FLORIDA dermatologist told me regarding the sun and sunblock; to use it EVERYTIME you go out, not just at the beach. Take it up with the medical community if you don't like that.

I'm not even gonna touch on the crime issue. We have more crime than VA, easily.
Trust me, the heat isn't so bad down there in the summer. I've flown back and forth to south FL (Ft. Lauderdale to be specific) during the summer and the heat and humidity is just as bad here.

The seasons aren't great here. It's not like you can do anything outside until May. I've been waiting to plant my garden because we're still getting days in the low 50's and into the 30's at night. The rain is bad, too. It rains constantly in the winter, usually days at a time. Not seeing the sun for 5 or 6 days really takes a toll on you.

As for crime, yes, in terms of numbers there is probably more crime in S FL. Look at the population though compared to Norfolk. But just for kicks, here's some of our latest stories

Bond denied for teens accused in plot [to bomb school]

13 suspected gang members arrested

Navy man sentenced for child porn

Police: Assault leads to death [of homeless man]

Three teens shot in Portsmouth home

Credit Union robbed at gunpoint

Thieves hit 9 York County cars

Court weighs ex-SEAL trainee confession [of killing]

Robbery victim threatened with knife

Suspects arrested in gang-related crime [shooting]

Just to name a few...

Crime is crime no matter how you look at it. We have just as bad crime problems around here, like I said, perhaps on a smaller scale due to our population, but a murder here is no different than a murder there.

Not to dwell on the weather, but if you think the seasons are nice, just talk to my aunt. She wakes up at 5 AM (she lives in NJ) usually in the winter so she can shovel out the driveway, clean off the cars, deice the locks and make sure the car starts so she can get in to work by 8.

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side (just don't look for that to be the case October through April here )

I have only lived in NC and FL. I like both weather, depending on what time of the year. I would think N VA and WNC weather would be similar, but I guess not. Asheville NC has 4 seasons, but none of them last for what seems like forever, as I guess winter does in N VA.

Fl has the better winters, b/c I like low's in the 40's and highs in the 60/70's... But in FL, that only lasts for a couple months really. But in NC, I can get those temps in April, May, and sometimes even into June, and then from July through mid-October, I get 60's at night and mid 80's during the day. Then, I get the cold snap in the winter, but it doesnt last all that long. Each season lasts just long enough, and then the next season begins.

I love FL weather from Nov - March, but it just doesnt get cold enough for me, and it doesnt last long enough in my opinion (and I'm a FL native too)!
