He probably was a wanted criminal, had no license, no insurance, and obviously is just plain heartless. How do these animals sleep at night?

I never go thru an intersection right when the light turns green. I have seen so many redlight runners it is scary.

^^^ I hear you! I always look and wait a second once the light turns green. Even when I am turning right and I have the green light, I still look to make sure nobody is coming at me from another direction.

My question is, and I think it's a good one... When I lived in Asheville, there were tons of drivers from FL there. But everyone drives so normal. But down here, in FL, there are so many bad drivers. So my question is, whether you are driving in FL, or in NC where a lot of FL drivers now live, why such a big difference?

I think it has to do with "Florida" itself. This place gives you the feeling like you are in the Wild Wild West again. Anything goes with this kind of population. The drivers in Asheville are probably some of the decent people that wanted to get back to civilization. Plus there is a lower concentration of riff raff.

Where were you?

Thank God my wife and I are both good drivers that are cautious. I have had some close calls.
I was coming out of a sidestreet with a stoplight (name escapes me but Citgo gas is on one side and Publix on the other) and onto Aloma in Winter Park.

I was driving in Ocala this morning, downtown on Magnolia. some idiot made a left had turn from the right lane across 2 lanes of traffic. There was another street about 50 feet up. Not close enough to the Social Security Office, I suppose.

I was out during yardwork tonight with my wife, and all of a sudden, I hear this roaring sound. I looked down the street, and there was a pack of cars coming towards us. The leader of the pack was in an SUV and completely hauling @ss for no reason. I heard the car from about 7 or 8 houses down as it rounded the corner, and I bet it hit 55mph by the time it got up to my house. My wife and I both yelled to slow down, and I used some expletives in there. I couldnt hold back, I was pissed. There are kids playing and everything. I just cant seem to fathom why people in our subdivision CONTINUE to drive this way. I live in a "nice" area in Orlando, and in a "gated community" and I swear the ghetto element just seeps right in. We are so tired of it. We NEVER had this problem in Asheville, NC. And our area in Asheville was a lot cheaper than the area we are in here in Orlando. But the people here in Orlando are just so much different. I just dont get it.

That's when I start writing some license plates down and calling the police. I am sorry you have to deal with that. Thankfully it has not gotten that bad in my neighborhood yet. Orlando may need to start putting speedbumps all over town like where I moved from.

Wilshire, I hope you dont have to deal with this stuff. I couldnt get the license plate, it was going way too fast. All I had time to do was yell. We are so tired if this. BTW, I live in the Waterford Lakes/Avalon area, so it's not like I live in a ghetto or anything even remotely close, but by the way people act and drive, you would never know it.

I guess living in Asheville for so long, I just never would have thought that moving back to FL (Orlando) would be such a challenge. If someone a few yrs ago would have told me that if you moved to the Waterford Lks/Avalon area, buy into a gated community where houses are between $250k - 400k, and cars will get stolen out of driveways, houses will get broken into, and you will have a few people get shot/stabbed, (2 of them actually died), a UCF girl raped, countless red light runnings and accidents, a car driven into a house (after being stolen) catching the house on fire, etc... I would have said, "Nah, I doubt it. It's too nice of an area."

I would have been wrong.

The problem is that Waterford is seemingly nice to a new resident and it attracts all types. The prices of homes in a lot of Waterford is in the $200k range and this is easy for someone to afford who just moved here from a state with much more expensive real estate like NY, NJ, CT, etc. I am not saying some crazy stereotypical statement like New Yorkers are ruining Waterford, but the area attracts all types. I think this is also true of most of the South side of Orlando. South Chase, Wyndham Lakes, Hunters Creek, etc. all attract new residents and given the current economy and housing crisis, are more affordable to less desirable types in some instances, or very nice areas and subdivisions are adjacent to worse off neighborhoods or apartments. People just need to learn common courtesy and respect and what the consequences of their actions could be. A two year old was just hit and killed in Sanford, and if I recall it was a hit and run. Those charges will probably ruin the individuals life and haunt them the rest of their life. Who wants to live with that the rest of their life? And if people are not going to think this way on their own, me calling the cops and reporting plates is definitely a step toward helping them realize their actions.
