Hey that looks like chicago!!

I am thinking the same thing , east or west coast for a condo. I am just over 50. I was thinking Boca or a little higher as apposed to Bonita or a little lower.

Any thoughts??

Thanks

I have no idea about Bonita but Boca is filled with snow birds. If you come for the winter only I think South FL has overall nice weather if you like to swim or boat. I would encourage you to visit both areas for awhile. Boca is not for everyone.

What about Sarasota vs Boca Raton for weather, jobs, shopping and overall quality of life? Thanks.

Are snowbirds all that bad?? Just asking.

Okay how about just north of Boca? Are there nice communities? I need to be near an airport and I want to be on the beach. Personally I think the east coast has nicer weather and its a much quicker drive to spend the day at the keys.

Any thoughts?

JOSU here is a link to compare the two cities

You are kind of back to the original question - Ft. Lauderdale vs Ft. Myers and about the same answers are true.

Yes the weather seems to be a little better on the east coast and I think I want to stay well north of miami and Ftl. I can visit if I want and i remember there being some nice quite communities just into palm beach county.

Thanks everyone!!

The weather on the east coast is a LOT better than down here in Fort Myers, the east coast is a ton better for the most part. With exception of a few areas I do like Sarasota, Estero, and Fort Myers beach areas.

I was thinking of Naples on the West Coast as a place to snowbird but reading about Ft. Lauderdale I may reconsider. Of course a stay in each to test the waters is an obviuos answer but as an outsider from England and researching future retirement, I am open to all suggestions. BTY we might well be coming up for retirement but feel young for our age and don't want to settling in a Geriatric area if someone suggests Fort Myres ... (no disrespect) ;o)

Only a small observation (and some might think a silly observation) but I have also noticed as an after thought, that a beach with palm trees on would be nice and a useful shelter from the sun. Many beaches along the Western coast of Florida are void of palm trees on the actual beaches themselves. Are there such trees located still on or very close to beaches now-adays or are these restricted to the islands like Hawaii? Miami is good for Palms on and close to the Beaches and make for nice useful addition.
