Very popular here and inexpensive. They have so much food and such a variety. The best part is you serve yourself and it is just one flat price for lunch or dinner.

I also remember Sizzler, I remember it to be really good, one of my fathers favorite places, was it call Western Sizzler? I dont know why that sounds familiar to me...Seems I remember being able to choose a dessert, green and red jello and chocolate pudding.

Does Florida still have Steak and Shake? How about the (Sambos, Denneys type) Big Boys with the giant boy out front holding a tray or something? I just love some of these posts, I havent thought of some of these things in years...these places dont exist in California.
yes we still have steak and shake! there are still sizzlers in orlando, but i don't know where else. morrissons was bought out by picadilly and we still have one in melbourne at the melbourne mall. i remember bob's big boy in ohio but i don't know of any in florida. i hope other people keep the food posts open because i always enjoy reading about nostalgic restaurants.

Red face Flash from the past!

Yes I remember Morrisons! I'm a Florida Native - Fort Lauderdale - and my mom and I used to have our big Friday night dinners out at Morrisons forever!! Too funny that you made me think about that.

Smile Morrisons

Funny Story:

There used to be one at Pompano Square in Pompano Beach. We used to go there for lunch in high school. We were on split sessions so we did not have lunch. Well, one day, feeling so grown up and all, the waiters would take your tray and carry it to your table. When one of them slid mine across the table, oh yeah, it landed on my lap, mashed potatoes and all!! Today, of course, you would probably sue but then, they would not even give me money for dry cleaning. Since I had to go to work, I had to go buy an outfit to wear to work. I don't think I ever wore those clothes again!!

Default Morrisons '70s Memories

Found this Forum after deciding to search about Morrisons while watching a cafeteria chain story on the Food Network. I can really relate to Sarasota_Blues's entry, and it brought back good memories! In the 1970's, my parents and I used to meet up with friends from all over the country for a few weeks in November on vacation in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. No trip could be "christened" until we went to the Ft. Lauderdale Morrisons on the first night -- and our last night before leaving we'd go there, too. On the way out, I can recall us saluting, "Until next year, Morrisons!" Sounds corney now, but my dad to whom I was close passed recently from a long bout with cancer, and Sarasota's memories sparked mine of good times, Morrisons' mac-and-cheese, those long lines and trays, and us goofy northerners from Boston who naively piled those trays with too many $$$ dishes we couldn't finish, until we learned better! (Then of course, there was always the Denny's that had Mother Butler's unbelievable pies attached, next door to the Denny's. Recall also the Sweden House and all those other crazy places down there? Real, good nice memories, anyhow -- thanks.

I was an 11-year-old from Massachusetts, traveling through the south for the first time, and Morrison's introduced me to cafeterias, southern cooking, strawberry pie and real hospitality.

It was part of the reason why I named a daughter Scarlett and moved to the south. Never underestimate some things.

"Until next year, Morrison's!"

I remember Morrison's quite well sadly. Yuck. In the early 1980's as a kid I had to eat at the one in the Cutler Ridge mall in Miami several times a week since it was my Grandparent's and my Dad's favorite place to eat cheap. Maybe I would like it now as an adult but back then I hated the place.

Dahla Horse (8th street, sylvania Blvd)
Sweden House ( one on Biscayne, another at South Dixie and 150 St)
Duff's ( Hialeah ) the rotary buffet, we use to go there after Palm Springs Lanes
Sizzler ( it was good at one time)
The Flying Fish ( Naranja)
Various cat and dog houses ( Chinese restaurants ) As kids we always made fun of the Pu PU platter!

Also at the various social clubs there were buffet nights. Many of those are gone as well. Piccadilly did take over Morrison's but although the food is good, it is too expensive for a big guy like me.

Just happened to surf by this one.

I was going to say I remember Morrison's, but it was a cafeteria, NOT a buffet.

Having been born in WPB in 1966, I remember going to Morrison's frequently as a kid!

What memories, this brings back.
