"Racers mate in the spring, and females deposit 10-12 eggs in small mammal burrows, under rocks or logs, or in mulch piles or rotting logs. Eggs laid in June or July normally hatch in August and September"

Yesterday i saw a snake in the yard in Miami, I think it was a young black racer? Maybe someone can help me figure out what kind of snake it is. It was about 2 feet long, slender, light grey and had a light yellowish colored underside. What so you think it was?

Sounds like a juvenile racer, but maybe a young rat snake if it was about 2' long. I think they both can have yellow bellies, but really dunno.....have a look online at Florida snake websites.

We have a black racer snake which lies on the rocks on our front lawn, day after day, not allowing us to get to our front door. How do we determine if there are any eggs? How do we getridof the snake and the eggs? We await your reply. Thank you. Dorothy Grayson

I would leave the snake alone, he won't bother you. Black snakes are very beneficial and they eat other snakes from what I've been told. I've seen several in my yard.

I generally let them go their own way, except for the time one got into my lanai. There is small gap under the door so I guess he got in that way. My husband got a broom and the snake wrapped himself around the stick part and my husband took him outside. I have seen some very small ones that looked about the size of worms. Babies?
